On August 23, 2024, BTS' Min Yoongi, aka Suga, was summoned to the Yongsan Police Station for interrogation regarding his DUI incident. The police reportedly questioned him for 3 hours from 7:45 PM to 10:54 PM (KST) before letting him go.

For the unversed, the BTS rapper got entangled in a DUI case after drunk driving a foldable electric kickboard/scooter on the night of August 6, 2024. Despite his apology letter on August 7, the Korean media and public backlash towards him continued for over two weeks.

Although MBC reported that his blood alcohol level (BAC) was at 0.08% as per the police report, several media outlets like Koreaboo, Yonhap, JTBC, The Korea Times, and more, claimed that his BAC level was 0.227%.

Meanwhile, Yonhap released another CCTV clip on August 23, showing Suga riding an electric scooter beside a car. After passing the car that was making a U-turn, he stopped for a second before continuing to ride again.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Min Yoongi, aka Suga, uploaded an apology letter on Weverse, apologizing for his reckless behavior. He mentioned not being aware of the Road Traffic Law pertaining to riding an electric kickboard/scooter under influence.

As per his statement, he tripped in front of his residence entrance gate while taking a turn. Three police officers walked up to him, smelled alcohol on him, and penalized him with a fine and revoked his license. The same day, media outlet JTBC aired a fake CCTV clip and claimed that the rider speeding on a motorized scooter in the footage was the BTS rapper.

Other media outlets started reporting on JTBC's released fake CCTV footage, inviting further public backlash towards BTS' Yoongi. On August 15, Dong-A Ilbo released a real CCTV video of the idol near his residence, Nine One Hannam Complex.

It showed him riding the mobility device below 30 km/hr (slower than riding a cycle at full speed) before he tripped in front of the gate. He immediately got up and picked up his helmet as three police officers approached him and started questioning him.

On August 16, JTBC apologized to the rapper for releasing a fake clip. This happened after the BTS ARMYs' (fans) global outrage, demanding JTBC, Yonhap, Chosun, Koreaboo, and others to apologize to Suga for false reporting and defamation.

Meanwhile, on August 23, after reaching the police precinct at 7:45 PM KST, the BTS rapper addressed the media and apologized. He said,

"I am truly sorry. I deeply apologize for the pain and disappointment caused by my wrongful actions. I am very regretful and will ensure that such an incident does not happen again. I apologize to all those who have supported me. Once again, I'm sorry." (as translated by Allkpop).

Currently, Suga is serving in the South Korean military as part of the country's mandatory enlistment law. He will return to the entertainment industry in June 2025.
