Notably, Slow Dancing is the title track of the album and debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on September 19, 2023. On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, the song entered at No. 3 on the same day.

Layover opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in September 2023. The album also ranked at No. 2 on the Top Album Sales list and the Top Current Album Sales chart. Taehyung's album was the second best-selling album of the week in the United States.

On the Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, the tracks from the album were ranked as follows:

  • Slow Dancing — #2
  • Blue — #12
  • Love Me Again — #34
  • Rainy Days — #35
  • For Us — #49

On the Billboard Global 200 chart, the tracks from Layover were ranked as follows:

  • Slow Dancing — #4
  • Love Me Again — #12
  • Rainy Days — #16

Taehyung wrote all the tracks for his debut solo album, Layover. The album opens with the alternative pop and R&B song, Rainy Days, which features a lo-fi mix. Taehyung released a music video for the track, which featured his pet dog, Kim Yeontan, whose face is on the Layover album cover.

The second song, Blue, is a throwback R&B tune that begins with a straightforward guitar line before swiftly blending drumming and sultry vocals. The third song, Love Me Again, is another R&B tune that centers around the singer's inner anguishes as he begs his beloved to stay with him.

Layover's title track, Slow Dancing, is another R&B romantic soul song from the 1970s with a straightforward jazz beat. All five tracks from the album are heavily influenced by jazz, saxophone tunes, and contemporary music. The album is wrapped with its last track, For Us, which has piano tunes and synth pads.

In other news, BTS' Kim Taehyung enlisted in the Special Duty Team (SDT) unit of the Republic of Korea Army (R.O.K.A.) on December 11, 2023. He is expected to return in June 2025 after completing his mandatory service of 18 months.
