The popular Korean drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, starring BTS member V, SHINee member Minho, actor Park Seo-joon, Park Hyung-sik, and many more, is getting remade in Japan as a stage play titled, Hwarang.
The drama centers around Sun-woo and Ji-dwi, who, despite their vastly different upbringings, find themselves drawn to the same woman and become Hwarangs in pursuit of their individual aspirations.
As per Stage Hwarang's official website, the remake of the 2016 KBS historical drama is scheduled to premiere in January 2025. From January 8 to 13, it will run at THEATER MILANO-Za in Tokyo and from January 17 to 19, it will run at Umeda Arts Theater Drama City in Osaka.

The Japanese stage play of the drama will also feature a diverse cast of actors. Renowned Japanese theatre star Wada Masanari will portray the character of Sun-woo/Mumyeong, a man who was raised in a humble village and subsequently became a Hwarang.
He is driven by a profound desire to avenge the unjust demise of his closest friend, originally played by Park Seo-joon in the Korean drama. Wada Takuma portrays the character of Ji-dwi, also known as King Jinheung of Silla or Sammeukchon, who faces internal struggles due to his upbringing.
He conceals his royal lineage and assumes the role of a warrior. The character in the drama was previously portrayed by Park Hyung-sik.
Yuki Sasamori portrays Su-ho, who is highly skilled in martial arts and captivates the hearts of women. Ryosei Tanaka portrays Ban-ryu, as a reserved individual who keeps his emotions guarded and seeks power.
Toru Isono portrays Han-sung, the youngest member, known for his curiosity and cheerful nature and Kenta Matsui portrays Yeoul, renowned as the most beautiful Hwarang in Silla, captivating everyone with his allure.
The play's supporting cast includes Iwata Hiyori as Aro, previously portrayed by Go Ara, Otori Rei as Queen Ji-so, Nakamura Makoto as Yeongsil, Hasegawa Kasumi as Princess Seungmyeong, the daughter of Queen Jiso and the princess of Silla.
The Japanese company Avex Pictures, a group company of Avex, a leading Japanese entertainment company, has taken on the task of adapting the K-drama into a play. The screenplay is adapted by Mukku Akazawa and directed by Yo Hosaka.

The South Korean television series was produced in 2016. The plot centers around a select group of young men known as the Hwarang, who reside in Seorabeol, the capital city of Silla.
The series explores their journey of self-discovery, camaraderie, and romantic relationships amidst the turbulent era of the Silla Kingdom, which spanned from 57 BC to 935 AD.
Queen Jiso, acting as regent, assumes the role of ruler following the demise of her father, King Beopheung. To protect her son, Sammaekjong, from potential adversaries and assassins, she keeps him hidden.
In addition, she establishes the group of young men to cut across the existing power factions and diminish the influence of the nobles, who have become accustomed to their privileges under the bone rank system.
She also attempts to usurp the power of those who continue to covet the throne and bind them to protect her son and the throne. The drama features actors such as Park Seo-joon, Park Hyung-sik, and Go Ara in leading roles, with notable supporting roles from BTS V and SHINEE's Minho.
BTS's V and Jin also lent their voices to the OST It's Definitely You. The series aired on KBS2 every Monday and Tuesday at 10:00 pm (KST) from December 19, 2016 to February 21, 2017.
