With the start of 2025, K-pop fans have grown increasingly excited about BTS' comeback, as evidenced by the "BTS YEAR" trend that dominated social media platforms on January 1. The group's long-awaited return is expected this year, once all members have completed their military commitments. This will be their reappearance after a hiatus in their group activities in mid-2022.
Earlier, on December 27, 2024, ABS-CBN reported that BTS' comeback will mark the return of the multibillion-dollar industry that is K-pop.
“It is the comeback millions of fans and an entire multibillion dollar industry has been waiting for.”
Experts suggested that the boy band's reemergence in performance and public life may further elevate Korea's cultural export industry.
From new album to world tour: 5 things to look for around BTS' comeback
Fans looking forward to the return of the group, here are five things to look forward to ahead of their comeback this year.
1) New album release
BTS comeback will be followed by the debut of their anticipated new album. The upcoming 2025 album is expected to explore new musical avenues while remaining faithful to their distinctive narrative style.
Industry insiders have suggested the emergence of experimental genres, profound lyrical themes, and collaborative efforts with international musicians.
As reported by Korea media, the boy band will return with a comprehensive album to commemorate their 10-year anniversary of the “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” series in 2025. Therefore, the pre-order announcements are likely to be made this year.
2) World tour announcement
BTS world tour is allegedly being planned following the launch of their new album after the reunion. Information on dates and ticketing is expected to be disclosed soon following the album's release.
Earlier, Kim Seokjin hinted at the World Tour during his solo album’s Listening Party on November 22, 2024. Jin revealed a wish to explore the world with the rest of the K-pop group. Jin stated that he will address this with the other members once they returned from military service.
“I really want to visit every single country. But when I think about traveling to every country, I think even a year won’t be enough. Later, when all our members get together, we’ll carefully discuss it and try our best to make sure no country is left out,” Kim Seokjin stated.
In one of his episodes of Are You Sure!, Jungkook talked about the group’s reunion and tour.
3) Merchandise
The boy band is project to release exclusive merchandise and special editions of their new album, like their previous releases. The merchandise will likely include collectible photobooks, signed posters, and limited-edition apparel.
These things are anticipated to sell out rapidly; therefore, fans are cautioned to remain vigilant for official notifications from BIGHIT Music.
4) Special documentaries
The septet is rumored to deliver new documentaries and video footage detailing the creation of their album, rehearsals for the world tour, and reflections on their sabbatical.
The upcoming documentary or docuseries will be released following the recent releases of Jungkook’s I AM STILL and Namjoon’s Right People, Wrong Place, which showed their respective journeys in the making of their solo albums.
Fans will be able to get a better look at the group's artistic process and personal experiences, just like in previous documentaries.
5) Run BTS and Bon Voyage
While waiting for the group's comeback, several fans speculate that the boy band will resume their reality shows Bon Voyage and Run BTS following their reunion.
Bon Voyage is a travel vlog series featuring members of the boy band on their worldwide adventures. It depicts them in commonplace scenarios that every traveler experiences and provides a distinctive perspective on the life of the idols. Run BTS is also a reality show in which the K-pop group members play a variety of games and engage in different activities.
As of this writing, only two members of the group, namely Jin and j-hope, have finished off their military training. The remaining members, Jungkook, Jimin, Namjoon, Taehyung, and SUGA, are projected to reunite sometime in June this year.
