On November 13, 2024, Geffen Records apologized for accidentally getting BTS' Jin's Happy album versions photographs. The album had two variations: Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Walmart Exclusive and Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Weverse US Exclusive.
In its official X statement, Geffen Records said:
"We regret to inform you that due to an error during the manufacturing process, the exclusive photocards for 'Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Walmart Exclusive' and 'Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Weverse US Exclusive' have been mixed up. We sincerely apologize for any confusion."
Furthermore, the label also explained the "corrected product details" and they are as follows:
- Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Walmart Exclusive: 1 Random Exclusive Photocard out of 3
- Happy (Ver. 3 Navigate) - Weverse US Exclusive: 1 Random Exclusive Photocard out of 3
The American label signed a strategic joint venture partnership with HYBE Corporation in 2021. It is now leading the album manufacturing segment for the BTS idol's forthcoming debut solo album release set for November 15, 2024.
The BTS ARMY were outraged and lashed out at the label for poorly handling Jin's Happy album promotion and manufacturing. One fan wrote on X:
“Can't even do one thing right for Seokjin”
ARMYs fumed and accused Geffen Records of allegedly "sabotaging" the BTS idol's forthcoming album release.
"When it comes to BTS, you never do your job right," one fan commented.
"We still don’t know the US and EU sales for TA. The whole chaos in weverse stating it’ll be included for charts n then quietly deleting it. Messing up IBT pre-orders and now this?? It’s just intentional atm," another fan wrote.
"No promo, no playlisting, cannot do their job properly even for manufacturing process. Now doing this 2 days before album release. I need to reveal their contract with jin because are we even sure jin is an artist under their label with this constant sabotage," one other fan said.
The label's negligence in notifying fans 48 hours before the album's November 15 release was criticized by several fans. A few fans clarified that the photocard mix-up wouldn't affect sales or charting, however, the mishap was disappointing.
"FYI!!! THIS WILL NOT AND SHOULD NOT AFFECT SALES. WV (US) & All US based stores have to follow the same rules for charting. The only thing it affects is if you're a collector of PCs. You'll now need to aquire a WV album to collect the Walmart PC. No sales will be affected," a fan clarified.
".... and you notice this 48 hours before the album releases?" another fan questioned.
"If being unprofessional was a competition, you'd come out as the winner. we've been dealing with your incompetent ass since the astronaut release, we are tired @bts_bighit @HYBEOFFICIALtwt @GeffenRecords" another fan remarked.
Geffen Records faces backlash for allegedly sabotaging BTS' Jin and Taehyung's solo promotions
In October 2024, BTS ARMY trended several hashtags on X worldwide like "TREAT TAEHYUNG FAIRLY," and "BIGHIT RESPECT TAEHYUNG," among others. Fans accused Geffen Records of allegedly failing to restock Taehyung's solo album, Layover's vinyl in stores. Supporters claimed it also impacted Taehyung's album and song charting on music charts.
Meanwhile, BTS' Jin will release his debut solo mini-album, Happy, on November 15, which includes six tracks. The album's title track is Running Wild although its pre-released single, I'll Be There was released globally on October 25, 2024. However, the recent album photocard mix-up has disappointed fans once again.
They claimed that Geffen Records and BIGHIT MUSIC allegedly failed to properly promote BTS members' solo album releases.
In other news, BTS members Namjoon, Taehyung, SUGA, Jimin, and Jungkook will return from their mandatory military service in June 2025.
