On October 7, 2024, BTS' RM's documentary Right People, Wrong Place premiered at 8 PM KST, at the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) under the Open Cinema section.

The event taking place from October 2 to October 11, screened the BTS idol's film at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan, where it will be available throughout the festival period.

The 80-minute-long documentary feature film witnessed a massive turnout at the venue, while some fans even claimed on social media that the Indigo rapper's parents were also spotted attending the screening. While the atmosphere was electric and exciting, BTS ARMYs notably missed the show's star, RM, himself at the gathering.

Director Lee Seok-jun, assistant director Lim Soo-bin, and San Yawn of Balming Tiger and musician JNKYARD—both of whom also appeared in the film—were in attendance alongside other contributors involved in the project.

However, the absence of RM, who is currently completing his military duty in the South Korean army was markedly felt when Team RM took the stage to greet the crowd while presenting the much-anticipated production.

Expressing emotional reactions, many fans praised the BTS member upon his incredible achievement on socials while also wishing he were there in person to celebrate alongside. One such fan wrote,

"joon's team are introducing rpwp documentary at biff rn and I can't help but wish joon was there"

More similar sentiments sprang up as fans spoke about missing Kim Nam-joon aka BTS' RM at the event,

"CRYYYYYY they are there without Joon," wrote a fan.
"It's such a shame Joonie is not present for the BIFF 2024. But I'm sure he's happy knowing there are a lot of people (especially Armys) who came to support his documentary film. Thank you everyone who came for him!" voiced another netizen.
"Namjoon deserved so much to be there," a comment read.

At the same time, many voiced excitement and encouragement for Team RM and the idol himself,

"omg the team is heree," an ARMY noted.
"So proud," a post said.
"im so so sooo proud of him regardless. his dedication to his work & arts are just so admirable. oh my namjoon," another X-user stated.

Meanwhile, RM who enlisted in December 2023 received an early promotion to the rank of Corporal in August 2024, owing to his exceptional work in the military. He was recently seen in pictures with President Yoon Suk-yeol during the latter's Chuseok visit to the 15th Division of the Army of which RM is an active soldier.

BTS' RM's documentary Right People, Wrong Place is a chronicle of the idol's pre-military and professional life

RM of BTS gained worldwide praise for his second solo album Right Place, Wrong Person which was released on May 24, this year. The album through its 11 tracks and celebrated collaborations with names like American singer-songwriter Moses Sumney, English rapper Little Simz, and jazz duo DOMi and JD Beck, highlights the universal feeling of not fitting in.

The docu-film, Right People, Wrong Place chronicles the 8-month journey of the album's creation and also captures the late twenties of RM before he left for his military hiatus. Director Lee Seok-jun, who previously partook in producing BTS' j-hope's music videos for Arson and MORE from his album Jack In The Box, led the direction for Right People, Wrong Place.

With names like Balming Tiger's San Yawn, musician JNKYARD, Jang Se-hoon, and Son Ji-min in the cast, the film offers a deeper perspective into who RM is. The BTS leader can also be seen saying in the film's trailer that he wants to showcase his true self, stating,

"You know, just be more honest and frank. You know, just be me."

As described on the Busan International Film Festival's website, the film opens with faded, grainy shots that evoke nostalgia. It is further referred to as a journal or a diary of a youth calling it a "small festival-like joint project where friends who get along well and have similar tastes gather and share hamburgers and whiskey." It also depicts RM as someone who "dreams of an album that is 'completely him.'"

Furthermore, at the premiere, movie-goers not only received a set of accompanying franchise postcards as a bonus per ticket but also a booklet and a special magazine. The special magazine's circulation was revealed on October 5, when a social media update by the film's official distributing partner CJ 4DPLEX, announced the news.

Despite being unable to attend the screening at the 2024 BIFF, RM made sure to send out a heartfelt note of gratitude to ARMYs, for their unwavering love and support. The following message was displayed on the screen at the end of the premiere,

"Very Special Thanks OUR BIGGEST VOICE, ARMY"

Team RM members also posted story updates on Instagram thanking and expressing admiration for the Domodachi rapper after the viewing. Jang Se-hoon who was a part of the docu-film, wrote,

"Namjoon-ah congratulations, thank you , i love you"

According to Star Today's report on October 4, General Director Oh Yoon-dong of CJ 4DPLEX spoke about RM's Right People, Wrong Person during the 'CJ Movie Forum' that day. As distributors of the film, they revealed their plan to release the documentary on 3,000 screens globally, commencing in December. This will take place as a part of their project to propagate K-pop worldwide.
