Chun Woo-hee is reported to join the upcoming JTBC K-drama, My Youth. Naver reported that she has been offered to play the female lead in the “genre” series. It was previously reported that Song Joong-ki would feature in the drama, and his agency confirmed that he is reviewing the offer.
Chun Woo-hee is known for her roles in Atypical Family and The 8 Show. Joong-ki's agency, HighZium Studio, is the one producing the show, and both actors are currently in talks about getting on board.
The drama revolves around the turbulent lives of a boy and a girl who are reunited 15 years later. Lee Sang-yeop will be directing this piece. Sang-yeop's earlier works include Yumi's Cells, Familiar Wife, and Shopping King Louis. With an ideal writer-director pair, the K-drama promises to put up a good show.
Chun Woo-hee and Song Joong-ki might play the leads for upcoming K-drama My Youth
Naver reported that on Monday, June 17, an entertainment personnel told JTBC News that Woo-hee is planning to star in the new K-drama. Following the same, Chun Woo Hee’s agency BLITZWAY Studios told Sports Chosun that the actress is considering the offer.
Joong-ki's agency also confirmed that he is reviewing the offer. While Song Joong-ki is a big name, Woo-hee has rightfully gained a special place in the hearts of fans through her performances in The Beauty Inside, The Wailing, Delightfully Deceitful, and Be Melodramatic.
Chun Woo-hee will be seen in the role of Seong Je-yeon, who had the ideal education, salary, and livelihood. However, after reuniting with Seon Woo-hae, whom she knew as a child, her life takes a turn for the worse. Woo-hae's character will be played by Joong-ki.
Joong-ki's big-screen debut with Hopeless caught attention at the esteemed 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Moreover, he won over the hearts of his fans with his outstanding performance in the popular drama Reborn Rich.
After fatherhood, this would be the first K-drama Joong-ki would be signing up for. Joong-ki had been focusing on his family after the birth of his son in June 2023 with his wife, Katy Saunders. He was last seen in the Netflix film My Name Is Loh Kiwan and made a cameo appearance in Queen of Tears as Vincenzo Cassano
Chun Woo-hee's other projects
With one million views on Netflix, Atypical Family is on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows list. Woo-hee played the part of Do Da-hae, the mysterious woman who seems to have taken an interest in protagonist Bok Gwi-ju's family and their superpowers.
While Woo-hee might be seen in a romantic role in the upcoming K-drama, her latest hit, The 8 Show, had her playing the villain for most parts. The series revolves around eight people in desperate need of money who end up in a survival game. The series aired on Netflix on May 17.
In an interview with The Chosun Daily on May 27, Chun Woo-hee revealed that she had been concerned about the character seeming 'disgusting' to the viewers while playing the 8th floor, the last floor of the survival game. Instead of going haywire with the character, she decided to portray the 8th floor as a fantasy character without much real-life grounding so as to not tire the audience.
After such an intense role, fans wait to see Woo-hee play a realistic and romantic character in her next drama. While neither of the actors have confirmed their participation, it seems highly likely that viewers will get to see the two together in My Youth.
