On January 3, 2025, Vietnamese-American Twitch streamer and FaZe Clan member Jason faced backlash online following the release of his YouTube video titled "I Met NewJeans Again!". The video, which documented his visit to the Countdown Japan music festival, sparked outrage for allegedly showing him near NewJeans' backstage dressing room, an action many fans deemed highly inappropriate.

Jason, known for his gaming content and K-pop fandom, was invited to the festival by his friend, K-pop star Jay Park. Countdown Japan, a year-end event, featured prominent artists, including NewJeans.

Jason's vlog showcased his excitement about the festival and his admiration for the group. However, a particular segment showing him near their private area quickly overshadowed any positive intentions.

Fans accused him of invading the group’s privacy and behaving like a sasaeng (stalker fan), an issue taken very seriously in the K-pop community. An X user, @charestriart wrote:

"Definitely entitled stalker. I wonder if new jeans still befriending him! YUCK!"

The latest vlog included now-deleted footage of him near NewJeans' dressing room. While Jason claimed the interaction was brief, fans were outraged, noting that such an intrusion into a private space was unacceptable.

"The Abandonment eps 128 OMG THIS ENTITLED PERVERT!!!! AND NEW JEANS ARE FRIENDS WITH HIM??? DISGUSTING! SHOULDN'T MHJ TAKE CARE OF NEW JEANS SAFETY???????," an X user wrote.
"My question is how did he even have backstage access?," a netizen commented.
"i just hope no tokki is still defending him after this and just overall stop associating the girls with him…," a fan mentioned.
"weird af lol. NewJeans were being courteous and friendly in meeting that first time after he helped ETA go viral but it doesnt mean there needs to be some continued relationship now. and Jason defo clout chasing," a user added.

Others pointed out that despite having met the members before, his actions crossed a boundary, stressing that he should respect limits.

"broo, this is so weird. he really went backstage and tried knocking on their dressing room door? and then deleted it from the vlog ‘cause he KNEW it was wrong. like, respect their privacy?? doesn’t matter if you’re a fan or worked with them before, that’s crossing the line," an X user wrote.
"what the hell was on his mind?! that was so weird going to their dressing room like omg i’m so mad rn," another fan commented.

More about Jason and NewJeans' friendship

In the nearly 30-minute-long video, Jason narrated his journey to Japan and the events leading up to his interaction with NewJeans. He described briefly meeting members Hanni, Danielle, and Haerin during a previous encounter, which he had documented in earlier uploads.

Jason recounted in the video how he greeted the group before their performance, acknowledging their apparent surprise at his presence.

He explained that he did not record the performance or take photos due to strict festival policies and insisted he didn’t want to disrupt them.

Despite these claims, the controversy erupted, with many accusing him of crossing boundaries by approaching the dressing room area in the first place.

The backlash was widespread, with fans of NewJeans and the broader K-pop community calling for accountability.

Social media platforms were flooded with criticism, with users labeling Jason’s behavior as invasive and inappropriate. Even within his community, Jason faced significant fallout.

Fans who once supported him began canceling their subscriptions and criticizing his actions publicly, leading him to delete his X community, “NMS HUB.”

The controversy also reignited discussions about the treatment of K-pop idols and the importance of respecting their personal and professional boundaries.

As Jason’s vlog circulated, many pointed out how his actions undermined the privacy of artists who already face immense pressure in the public eye.

Jason's admiration for the group began when he celebrated a Twitch milestone by playing their song ETA.

The clip quickly went viral, gaining so much attention that the members of NewJeans later recreated the moment themselves.
