Former member of K-pop group BigBang T.O.P, whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, takes on a pivotal role in Netflix's highly anticipated Squid Game season 2. Following its record-breaking debut in September 2021, the series returned to Netflix on December 26, 2024, with T.O.P. starring as Player 230.
Known by his nickname "Thanos," Player 230 stands out with his vibrant purple hair and flamboyant personality. The character is also a rapper within the Squid Game universe. His energetic, unpredictable behavior is fueled by his drug use, symbolized by the multi-colored pills he keeps hidden in a cross-shaped pendant.
Despite his fame and success as a rapper, Player 230 faces financial ruin after losing his wealth to a failed investment in a cryptocurrency called MG Coin. This setback drives him to join the deadly competition. Thanos causes chaos among the contestants, notably during the "Red Light, Green Light" game, where his reckless actions lead to the deaths of several players in Squid Game season 2.
In one scene, as the players recognize Thanos, they immediately gather around him for a picture and have to be stopped by the guards. Fans are amused by this overlapping of T.O.P's real life and the character he plays in Squid Game season 2.
"Thanos sudden fanmeeting Destined to be popular wherever he goes T.O.P BACK IN THE GAME" wrote one fan.
"The real name of Thanos is Choi Su-bong Same last name too," noted another fan.
"This is the first time, i like the Villain and Thanos," said another fan.
Fans are delighted to see T.O.P back as an actor.
"Okay, biases aside, I am completely smitten by Thanos right now. I super love him in every scene that he is in," commented a fan.
"Thanos real name is Choi Su-bong, total debt 1.19 billion won oh dear," reacted another fan.
"I'm living for actor ChoiSeunghyun return, after all this years seeing him is so beautiful and heartwarming," wrote another.
