A recent post on X has ignited a significant controversy involving American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan and BTS member Jimin. On December 20, 2024, an account named @DropKpopNet shared what appeared to be an interview excerpt.

For context, the X account’s bio clarified that it represented a K-pop version of @DropPopNet and that they had full permission to operate in this manner. Furthermore, it stated that the account was satirical and managed by multiple admins.

The post quickly gained traction, amassing 2.7 million views at the time of writing. Furious fans were quick to condemn the remarks. However, many began questioning the authenticity of the so-called interview. Despite its virality, it was soon revealed that the interview was fabricated, leading to even greater outrage over the spread of misinformation.

The post attributed the following statement to her:

"I would rather collaborate with someone who had talent."

Netizens took to social media to call out the spreading of misinformation. An X user @gookiemin__, wrote:

"13k likes??? Over a made up lie oh kpoppies are desperate."

The situation escalated further when the original poster claimed that BTS fans had lodged complaints with their educational institution. Others joined in to condemn the spread of misinformation, calling for accountability and urging users to verify facts before sharing such content.

"Awww.... Didn't they teach you that Actions have consequences at school?," an X user wrote.
"Just letting this hatefull posts with such big engagements without community note or mass log in to suspend this sh*t account What are we doing here !!!!," another person mentioned.
"Leave my girl Chappell alone y'all low life bi*ches know damn well she didn't say that!! Stan Jimin btw," a user wrote.

The collective outrage highlighted the importance of responsible social media behavior.

"posting fake news wasn’t too far ? deserved idc," an X user commented.
"The post is still up. You wait till both artists sue you for defamation," a fan remarked.

The X user apologizes to BTS' Jimin for spreading false information

Following the uproar caused by the viral post, the user revealed that their school had taken disciplinary action against them after receiving complaints from Jimin's fans. A screenshot of the letter from the school was shared, outlining the consequences of their actions.

The letter emphasized that the derogatory remarks made against Jimin violated the school’s Code of Conduct, which prioritizes respect and responsible social media behavior. It further stated that such behavior tarnished the institution’s reputation and fostered negativity.

As a result, the user was reportedly suspended for one week. However, the authenticity of the email can be questioned, given that the account is satirical.

In light of the backlash and disciplinary measures, the user later went live on X to publicly apologize to Jimin. They reportedly admitted to their mistake, expressing regret for their actions and the harm caused by the false information they had spread. The live space has been since deleted.

More about BTS' Jimin and his recent activities

The Serendipity singer continues to break records in the music scene despite being enlisted in South Korea’s mandatory military service since December 2023. Alongside his bandmates Jungkook, RM, and V, Jimin joined the army, pausing his public appearances.

However, his musical contributions have remained impactful, with achievements that underscore his growing influence as a solo artist. Before enlisting, he released his debut solo album, FACE, on March 24, 2023. The album became the first K-pop solo album to rank in the top 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

On July 19, 2024, while serving in the military, Jimin released his second studio album, MUSE, through Big Hit Music. The album consists of seven tracks, including the pre-release single Smeraldo Garden Marching Band, featuring rapper Loco, and the lead single, Who.

BTS' Jimin, who has been fulfilling his mandatory military service since December 2023, remains a topic of conversation even in his absence. He is scheduled to return to the spotlight following his discharge in June 2025.
