On July 11, 2024, the American streaming platform Disney+ unveiled a trailer for the upcoming thriller and action drama The Tyrant featuring Kim Seon-ho, Cha Seung-won, Jo Yoon-soo, and Kim Kang-woo, showcasing an action-packed and eventful glimpse of the series. Disney+ captioned their Instagram update as:
"To occupy or to eliminate A long chase towards the final sample."
The drama would depict an entertaining and interesting chase for the last sample of the Tyrant program after it disappeared on the way to delivery. Subsequently, a former agency, the director of a government agency, and an employee of a foreign intelligence agency got entangled in the hunt and fought each other.
According to Asianwiki, the official synopsis for the show is as follows:
"The last sample of the Tyrant Program goes missing while being delivered. People from different groups struggle to find the last sample. Im Sang (Cha Seung-won) is a former agent. He is tasked with getting rid of people related to the tyrant program. Choi (Kim Seon-ho) is the bureau director of a government agency. He operates the Tyrant Program unofficially. Paul (Kim Kang-woo) is an agent of a foreign intelligence agency. He tries to get rid of the last sample of the program."

The Tyrant features talented and versatile actors, including Cha Seung-won (playing Lim Sang-won), Kim Seon-ho (playing director Choi), Kim Kang-woo (playing Paul), and Jo Yoon-so (playing Ja-kyung). The trailer began showcasing a glimpse of Director Choi walking somewhere and transitioning to a car accident on a rainy night.
During the accident, the last sample of The Tyrant program sample disappeared, which contained a drug that could develop a superhuman gene. It fell into someone's hands. However, the individual who got the last sample was not shown during the clip. The trailer transitioned, showcasing Ja Kyung washing her blood-drenched face and filling her gun with bullets and Lim Sang-won tortured somewhere in an isolated place at night.
The scene changed, showcasing Director Choi of the Korean government agency, who has been looking after the project unofficially, killing someone with a gun to multiple snippets of the character donning formal uniform-styled glasses. Director Choi met a lady who threw a question at him whether he would terminate the program.
Director Choi and Paul confronted each other, with Paul asking about the drug's location and why Choi created an uncontrollable virus. The teaser then showed action-packed scenes of the drug hunt and introduced actors Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho, Kim Kang-woo, and Jo Yoon-soo.
The trailer ended by showcasing Ja-kyung causing a serious accident intentionally and Director Choi pointing a gun at someone. The clip concluded by showing a villainous smile of Director Choi with a voice echoing, 'The Tyrant Program is ours.'
In the drama, the veteran actor Cha Seung-won chronicled the character of a former agent named Lim Sang-woo, who has been assigned the task of eliminating individuals and forces related to the project. The actor is well-known for projects, including Kick the Moon, My Teacher, Mr.Kim, Jail Breakers, Ghost House, The Greatest Love, and A Korean Odyssey. He recently appeared in One Ordinary Day and Our Blues.
Kim Seon-woo would breathe life into the character of Director Choi, who has been associated with the Korean government agency and has been tasked with the duty of looking after the project without any knowledge of the public. Kim Seon-ho is best known for dramas, including Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Start-Up, Two Cops, You Drive Me Crazy, 100 Days My Prince, Welcome to Waikiki 2, and recently starred in the noir film The Childe.
Kim Kang-woo would play the character of Paul, who was a member of the United States intelligence agency and had been assigned the task of discarding the last sample of the project. He is known for projects including The Missing, The Taste of Money, Artificial City, and recently appeared in Wonderful World.
Meanwhile, Jo Yoon-soo portrayed the character of a technician named Ja-kyung. She has been assigned the task of stealing the remaining sample of the Tyrant Project.
The four-episode series The Tyrant is slated to premiere on August 14, 2024, through Disney+.
