On Tuesday, July 30, NCT's Jaemin announced on Weverse that some of his photos from the Narcissism exhibition will be released for sale as photo frames. Recently, the idol rolled out his photo exhibition called Narcissism between June and July 2024, where he displayed several of the photos he took in the past 7 years.

While fans were excited to possibly purchase a copy of the idol's artwork, several netizens soon criticized him for allegedly overpricing the photo frames. The photo frames being sold were landscapes that the idol took in Virginia, the U.S., and Da Nang, Vietnam, and these were priced at 850,000 KRW (around $615).

Additionally, a few pictures that he photographed of the NCT Dream members on tour were also put up for sale, priced at 550,000 KRW (around $398). Though it was mentioned that 100% of the profits from photo frames' sales would go towards donations, netizens still called out the idol for allegedly expensive frames.

Netizens alleged that the idol was using fans' money to donate instead of using his own. However, as the criticism continued to spread across the internet, Jaemin's fans soon came to his defense. They explained that professional frames are usually quite expensive and if anything, the idol tried to minimize the costs to the best of his abilities.

Additionally, they also explained that fans were the ones who requested for the photo frames to be sold and Jaemin simply listened to his fans. They also argued that the idol wasn't forcing anyone to buy the photo frames and if it was out of budget for some people, they could choose not to buy the frames.

Therefore, fans were angered that the idol was being accused of using his fans and overpricing his merchandise. One fan said on X(formerly Twitter):

"This is how usually premium art frames cost. Jaemin's frames are costumized so it's more expensive not to mention the printing," one fan said.
"Hi pookie, firstly the fans begged for him to sell the frames. secondly, he's not forcing anybody to buy the frames, hope this helps," said another fan.

More fans came forward to defend the idol and explain that the pricing was reasonable and expected.

"Jaemin is forcing no one to buy the frames of his exhibit nor everyone is obliged to buy—in fact all of this was bcs of the fans’ request. if u cant afford it, dont buy it. no need to criticise him as an artist & call him a fraud who’s willing to donate the proceeds of the frames," one fan added.
"If u’re so against the price, there are his fans who’re willing to spend for his art and support him. if its not ur fandom, its NOT ur problem," another fan said.
"If you even don’t know behind the story,it’d be better to shut your mouth up.We requested to sell it and that’s why he decided to sell it and alrdy told us the price would be a bit expensive but 100% sales proceeds will donate under fandom name," another person said.

All you need to know about NCT Jaemin's Narcissism photo exhibition

Fans of NCT would be aware that Jaemin holds photography as one of his primary hobbies. The idol has six high-end cameras and also holds a camera refrigerator to prevent molding. Therefore, he's been quite dedicated to the craft and has built quite a portfolio of the photos he's taken over the years.

The idol finally established his work in the form of an exhibition called Narcissism at Yongsan, Seoul between the dates June 29 to July 19.

He was also intricately involved in the creation of the photo exhibition and all its properties such as merchandise production, design, and more. The exhibition, unsurprisingly, was a huge commercial success.

Several fans from around the world came to get a glimpse of the idol's artwork. Following its success, fans requested Jaemin, through his Bubble account, to release the photo frames, and the details regarding the same were released on July 30 on Weverse.
