On Monday, October 21, ARTMS' Choerry was tangled in controversy for chanting "Macron, Quit" at the group's recent concert in Paris. During the concert, when the members were interacting with the fans who were gathered at the venue to watch the girls perform, many of them requested Choerry to chant the phrase, "Macron, Quit".

The phrase refers to Emmanuel Macron, who stands as the 25th and the current French President, who has retained the position since 2017. Soon after the fan-taken videos of the idol's chant landed on the internet, netizens were concerned and began to debate about the same.

Many argued that the members were most likely not aware of the political link behind the phrase and expressed that it was unfair and problematic for fans to make idols chant these phrases. They also added that this might affect their career and their public image, especially in the eyes of the French audience.

All in all, people expressed that it was not right for fans to trick or manipulate public figures, in this case, K-pop idols, to make political statements in languages they don't fully comprehend due to the heavy consequences they might face. Therefore, people called out the audience's inappropriate act to urge Choerry to chant the phrase.

Here are a few fans' reactions to the same:

"please don't trick the girls into doing this"
"whatever your political views its not funny or cool to trick a celebrity into saying something like this in a language they don't understand when it could genuinely get them in trouble" said a fan on X
"literally can hinder the chances they will ever tour there again, so I guess congratulations" added another fan

More fans and netizens talked about how it was disrespectful to the idol to reel her into political scenarios without her knowledge.

"why are we tricking non native speakers, especially music artists with reputations to uphold into saying political stuff?" commented an X user
"one day orbits gonna learn the hard way if they keep doing this to them" said an X user
"yall baiting her into saying that when she didnt know the meaning... sick" added another X user

All you need to know about ARTMS's Choerry and her activities

ARTMS is a K-pop girl group that was formed by the South Korean record label, MODHAUS. They debuted this year on May 31 with their single, Virtual Angel from their first album, DALL. The group is renowned due to the lineup. The members, Heejin, Haseul, Kim Lip, Jinsoul, and Choerry, are known for their previous stint as LOONA's lineup.

LOONA was another K-pop girl group created by Blockberry Creative in 2016 and consisted of eleven members in total. While the group grew to become one of the most famous K-pop girl groups in the industry, they soon met with disbandment due to feuds between the company and the members. Following the same, the members have embarked on different careers in the music industry.

Choerry or Choi Ye-rim is a South Korean singer, rapper, and dancer. The idol was first introduced to the public eye through Blockberry Creative's pre-debut show on creating LOONA back in 2016. She was the eighth revealed member of LOONA and also rolled out her first single as the group's member, Love Cherry Motion, in 2017.

Choerry was also part of LOONA's subunit, ODD EYE CIRCLE, through which she released the EP, Mix & Match, with her fellow subunit members. In November 2022, however, the idol was removed from the group and the agency as a consequence of her injunction against Blockberry Creative to terminate her contract. The agency blamed her fellow member Chuu as the reason behind her removal.

They expressed that Chuu's alleged abuse of power led to their decision to remove Choerry from LOONA. While the agency announced a comeback for the LOONA members in January 2023, it was continuously postponed due to fans' boycotts and protests against the agency.

Eventually, the idol's injunction was granted and in 2023 she left the company. Following the same, she's been active as an ARTMS member with her fellow former LOONA members.
