Disney+ popular K-drama, Crash, starring Lee Min-ki, Kwak Sun-young, and Heo Seong-tae has been confirmed for a season renewal. According to iMBC news, the content studio Astory declared the production of the popular K-drama on August 21, 2024.

Directed by Park Joon-woo and written by Oh Soo-jin, Crash released episodes from May 13 to June 18, 2024, every Monday and Tuesday on South Korea's ENA broadcasting network and Disney+. The plot focuses on the Traffic Crime Investigation Team (TCI) under Captain Jeong Chae-man (Heo Seong-tae) that uncovers road accidents and more.

Throughout its 12 episodes, the drama investigates car crashes, murders, and sinister crimes involving illegal syndicates. According to Nielson Korea, the overall average TV viewership nationwide ratings were 4.754% while it spiked to 4.985% across Seoul.

Despite being aired on a smaller cable TV (ENA), the drama achieved 6.943% viewership ratings on its finale episode—the second-highest viewership rating in ENA's history.


Crash season 2 might turn into a "long-running Korean-style seasonal investigation piece" — Director Park Joon-woo

Disney+ popular K-drama's episode 12 showed the Traffic Crime Investigation (TCI) team's jurisdiction being transferred from the National Police Agency to the National Investigation Headquarters.

According to iMBC, the series' writer Oh Soo-jin mentioned that the upcoming season would showcase the backstories of all TCI members and important characters from the Namgang Police Station.

"In season 2, not only the chemistry between the TCI team members but also the colorful stories of the characters at Namgang Police Station will unfold. We will also cover more diverse traffic crime cases, so please look forward to it."

Director Park Joon-woo added that the series could turn into a "long-running Korean-style seasonal investigation piece," hinting at the possibility of the drama's getting renewed for several seasons.

"Thanks to the support of viewers, I will work hard to make <Crash 2> a long-running Korean-style seasonal investigation piece with more diverse episodes and upgraded car action scenes."

Viewers expressed their happiness over the news and flooded social media speculating about season 2's possible plot arc. Furthermore, season 1 ended by reuniting the Traffic Crime Investigation (TCI) team members, Lee Min-ki, Kwak Sun-young, Heo Seong-tae, Moonhee, and Lee Ho-chul, for as they found the missing girl and uncovered the dark truth of the Hwapyeong Island murder cases.

After the TCI team was disbanded and members were reassigned, the Hwapyeong Island murder case brought the team back together. Their successful efforts were praised by headquarters, helping to reestablish the team. Additionally, Crash season 1 ending also previously hinted at a possible season renewal.
