On December 2, the media outlet NME released its list of '50 Best Songs of 2024,' featuring tracks from K-pop groups such as KISS OF LIFE, KATSEYE, ILLIT, BLACKPINK's Rosé, and aespa. The latest list commemorated the musical moments released this year.
The four-member group KISS OF LIFE secured the 46th position with their track STICKY. The Afrobeat-inspired song was described as just what the balmy dog days needed. Accompanied by a string sound, it created a melodic experience. The band released the digital single on July 1, 2024, through S2 Entertainment.
Moreover, the global girl group KATSEYE's track Touch occupied the 43rd position on the list. The single has been described as 'extraordinarily dreamy,' featuring a delicate dance of popped hips and winking hands. The band has been cited as a scholar of K-pop's most important lessons. It was released through HYBE UMG and Geffen Records on July 26, 2024. It is the second single from their extended play SIS (Soft is Strong).
ILLIT, BLACKPINK's Rosé, and other K-pop artists dominated 2024 with their hit tracks
The five-member band from Belift Lab and HYBE Corporation, ILLIT, occupied the 27th position with their single, Magnetic. Released on March 25, 2024, through Belift Lab, the track is part of their debut extended play, Super Real Me. NME described Magnetic as a track filled with stuttering beats, fizzy synths, and an addictive pop hook.
Subsequently, BLACKPINK's Rosé snagged the 14th position with her collaborative track APT. (featuring Bruno Mars). The track was released on October 18, 2024, through The Black Labels and The Atlantic Records. The outlet stated that this was the female artist's first solo single in three years and described it as an unexpected blast and brilliant.
They also added that the rollicking pop-punk song reminded them of the playful side of indie-poppers, the Ting Tings. Additionally, the American singer and songwriter's presence added to the chaos of the track.
Lastly, K-pop group aespa's Supernova ranked in the Top 10 of the list, occupying the 9th position. The song was described as affirming the band's capability to thrive in uncharted territory. Filled with an electro beat and a stellar hook, Supernova was released on May 13, 2024, through SM Entertainment. It serves as the title song for the K-pop group's first studio album, Armageddon.
