BTS’ Suga's DUI incident saw a new turn of events after Donga Ilbo, a South Korean media agency, released new CCTV footage on August 14. Suga was booked for drunk driving on an electric kickboard/scooter near the Yongsan area on August 6.
The media agency claims through the footage that the BTS member turned left at the Nine One Hannam complex apartment entrance in Yongsan. Around 11.10 pm KST, the K-pop idol lost his balance while driving, and according to the footage, he fell while taking a turn on the sidewalk of Nine One Hannam.
Donga Ilbo's report is in stark contrast to previously released CCTV footage by other Korean media broadcasters, which allegedly showcased Suga's DUI incident. On August 7, JTBC released a video of a person driving on a scooter on the main road.
Donga Ilbo's report on the footage claims that the person in JTBC's video was seen going toward Namsan Tower, but the CCTV released on August 14 allegedly shows the BTS rapper returning home on the sidewalk on Nine One Hannam.
On August 13, Yonhap News also shared a video claiming it to be the Haegeum singer on August 6. They stated that “Suga hit a curb and fell over.”
BTS’ Suga's routes were traced during the drunk driving incident in a recent CCTV video
On August 6, Donga Ilbo reported that BTS’ Suga, according to the police, went for dinner at a restaurant near Hannam, interacting with his acquaintances around 9 pm KST. After this, the D-DAY singer went drinking with his friends to a personal studio that was close to the restaurant.
Another media outlet, Chosun TV, posted a CCTV clip from the police where the singer was allegedly seen driving on the sidewalk of Hannam. Around 11 pm KST, Suga drove the electric kickboard/scooter, which was reportedly in his studio, and came back to his residence.
Upon further confirmation by the media outlet, the studio was reportedly found to be in 500 meters proximity to Nine One Hannam. As per the CCTV footage released on August 14, three policemen patrolling the Yongsan area were seen helping Suga pick up his helmet. He was then taken to conduct the breathalyzer test.
The Agust D singer has already issued an apology post to fans and netizens who were concerned about the incident. In a Weverse post on August 7, he admitted to unintentionally violating road traffic rules while driving an electric kickboard.
He expressed his disappointment in his actions and vowed to not repeat the same. The K-pop idol confirmed that there were no casualties or harm to anyone, and no property damage was done.
“I apologize to everyone who has been hurt by my careless and wrong behavior, and I will be more careful with my actions so that this does not happen in the future.”
The same day, BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed the news in an official statement on Weverse and apologized on behalf of their artist.
The BTS rapper began his military service journey in an alternative position on September 22, 2023. He is currently serving as a part of the military conscription and is set to be discharged from his national duties in 2025.
