On August 21, 2024, the Mega Champ Awards, organized by Celeb Champ and Idol Champ, announced the winners for the first half of 2024. In the four main categories of Best Singer, Best Song, Best Actor, and iMBC Entertainment HOT STAR, rankings were determined by combining 50% of the votes from Idol Champ and 50% from Celeb Champ.
Here are the details of the top categories of the Mega Champ Awards:
1) Best Singer:
EXO’s D.O. won the Best Singer title at the Mega Champ Awards. He secured 14.68% of votes from Idol Champ and 40.23% from Celeb Champ.
On May 7, 2024, D.O. unveiled his third mini-album, Blossom. This release is notable as it is his first musical project following his departure from SM Entertainment in October 2023 after an 11-year tenure. Post-departure, D.O. established Company Soosoo in partnership with a former SM Entertainment manager to oversee his solo endeavors.
2) Best Song:
The song Sudden Shower by the fictional band ECLIPSE from the hit TvN drama Lovely Runner took first place in the Best Song category. The track, performed by actor Byeon Woo-seok's character Ryu Sun-jae, has achieved notable success. It even ranked 167th on the Billboard Global 200.
The music video for the song was released on YouTube on July 30, 2024, and has quickly garnered an impressive 2.3 million views at the time of writing.
3) Best Actor
Kim Hye-yoon, recognized for her role as Im Sol in Lovely Runner, was named Best Actor with 35.93% of votes from Idol Champ and 55.52% from Celeb Champ. Kim Hye-yoon has been a prominent figure in youth dramas and has received acclaim for her role in the 2021 film The Girl on a Bulldozer.
The actress is said to be in discussions to star in the upcoming series “Human Starting From Today” (working title).
4) iMBC Entertainment HOT STAR:
Lee Chan-won was awarded the HOT STAR title in the Mega Champ Awards, earning 34.67% of votes from Idol Champ and 61.15% from Celeb Champ. Lee, known for his success in trot music, gained prominence after his performance on TV Chosun's Mr. Trot.
With a total of 4,245,392 votes cast, the event highlighted the relevance of the voting process by fans of each celebrity.
