On July 19, 2024, BTS' Jimin is scheduled to release his comeback solo album MUSE. Meanwhile, on July 9, his bandmate Taehyung is set to release his upcoming photobook, TYPE 1. They have caused quite a commotion on social media ahead of their separate releases, with fans speculating that Jimin's next album may feature a collaborative song between the two artists.
Speculation rose after BIGHIT MUSIC dropped the official promotional schedule for MUSE, leaving July 9 blank. The official tracklist also displayed track 05, BE MINE, with V encircled on top of the tape cassette. Meanwhile, Taehyung, aka V, will release TYPE 1 on July 9, which further fuelled fans' suspicions.
The Like Crazy singer-songwriter's previous single, Promise, shares a hidden link with Taehyung's solo track Winter Bear. The poster image of the MUSE artist for his previous single, Promise, was taken by Taehyung. Similarly, the cover of Winter Bear has two handmade toy bears, which were gifted to Taehyung by Jimin in Run BTS episode 85.
More about BTS Jimin's Promise and Taehyung's Winter Bear
Promise and Winter Bear are two non-album tracks that were first made available on SoundCloud. On December 31, 2018, Jimin's Promise was unofficially released on SoundCloud. On March 6, 2023, he officially launched Promise and Christmas Love on major digital streaming services.
Furthermore, on August 9, 2019, Taehyung's Winter Bear was unofficially released on SoundCloud, which the artist later released officially on August 28, 2023, across Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. On August 10, 2019, Taehyung uploaded a self-directed video of Winter Bear on the BTS YouTube channel, BANGTANTV.
Jimin's single Promise became the most-streamed song on SoundCloud as of June 14, 2023, and earned a Guinness World Record. The track also sold over 100,000 units in the United States as of June 2, 2024. Earlier, the FACE singer-songwriter disclosed that Promise is the first song he has ever written and composed.
Following BTS' concerts in Singapore, the idol revealed that Promise was not initially meant to be an uplifting song during a 2019 V Live broadcast (now Weverse). Meanwhile, Taehyung's Winter Bear MV depicts recollections from his time spent traveling around Europe and the United States with BTS on previous tours.
With his cameras in hand, Taehyung is shown traveling alone through places like Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and London amid images of adorable animals, stunning scenery, and impressive architecture. In a Weverse post on August 9, 2019, Taehyung, aka V, stated that he wrote, composed, and produced the song and directed and produced the music video.
The song was influenced by the 2013 Hollywood film About Time, starring Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson. The film follows the story of a man who possesses time-travel abilities. Winter Bear immediately shot to the top of SoundCloud Global and ranked No. 25 on the YouTube Global Music Video Chart.
Additionally, it emerged as the third most streamed song by a Korean artist on SoundCloud, and the music video was also featured on the Good Morning America show in September 2019.
In other news, both Jimin and Taehyung are serving in the South Korean military and will return in June 2025. Their solo releases were pre-recorded and pre-filmed before they enlisted in December 2023 and are being released via BIGHIT MUSIC.
