The K-drama Family by Choice, directed by Kim Seung-ho, premiered on October 9, 2024, with streaming available on Rakuten Viki. The 16-episode series, starring Hwang In-youp, Jung Chae-yeon, Bae Hyun-sung, and Choi Won-young, is adapted from the Chinese drama Go Ahead (2020).
Family by Choice follows three teenagers, unconnected by blood, who navigate life’s challenges together and become each other’s family. Years after their difficult upbringing and separation, they reunite, facing unresolved scars from their past.
Hwang In-youp plays Kim San-ha, a capable high schooler with a mysterious past. Jung Chae-yeon portrays the cheerful Yoon Ju-won, and Bae Hyun-sung completes the trio as Kang Hae-joon.
In episode 11 and 12, Ju-won and San-ha figure out their situation while Hae-jun discusses his surprise gift with Jeong-jae.

Family by Choice episode 11-12 recap: How does Ju-won react to San-ha’s confession?
After San-ha's confession in episode 11 of Family by Choice, Ju-won, in response, tells him that she also likes him, just like Hae-jun, Jeong-jae and the rest of them. She has a hard time wrapping her head around the idea. She even avoids bumping into San-ha in her building and is awkward while talking to him on call.
In this episode of Family by Choice, Jeong-jae calls the three for lunch at his place. Ju-won makes it a point to indicate to San-ha that the idea seems ridiculous. Hae-jun asks Ju-won to marry him, much to everyone's surprise.
He then explains that marrying Ju-won would make him related to them. Later, San-ha asks Ju-won to give him a chance and start over again. After he has left, Jeong-hui, his mother, calls Dae-wook and tells him that San-ha has to return after a month.
Seok-hun asks Hae-jun to picture kissing Ju-won after he finds out about the marriage idea. Hae-jun is filled with disgust and Ju-won overhears the conversation.
In return for not embarrassing him more, she makes Hae-jun help her clean.
Jeong-jae and Dae-wook talk to San-ha about the phone call. He tells them that he does not plan on leaving at all and has conveyed the same to his mother.
Dae-wook gets angry, thinking that San-ha is hiding something from him. Jeong-jae tries a softer approach but fails as well. Seeing him in pain, San-ha asks him to visit the hospital.
Next day, Ju-won accompanies Jeong-jae as he goes for a check-up. San-ha, having noticed pain in Ju-won's wrist, takes her for treatment. After both of them are done, they wait for San-ha in the lobby. Seeing Hui-ju joke around with San-ha, Ju-won gets jealous and San-ha notices.
At night, Park Dal tells Ju-won about her mother forcing her to go on blind dates. This leads Ju-won to realise that she had felt butterflies looking at Sanha when he was treating her in episode 11 of Family by Choice.
In the next scene, Hae-jun goes to meet his aunt. After sharing a meal together, she asks him if his mother called him and he tells her that she has not. Meanwhile, Jeong-jae bumps into So-hyeon, Jae-hun's mother, who reveals that she has been staying away since she has killed a person.
Park Dal asks Hae-jun to pretend to be her boyfriend to escape the blind date, which he accepts in this episode of Family by Choice.
Ju-won and San-ha go for dinner and Ju-won tries to tell him that nothing can happen between them.
As they are leaving, it rains and the two get wet. Taking shelter under a bridge, San-ha kisses her.
In episode 12 of Family by Choice, San-ha and Ju-won come back home flustered. Next day, as they are sharing a meal, some of San-ha's colleagues, including Hui-ju, drop by. One of them suspects that there is something going on between San-ha and Ju-won.
Dal goes for her blind date and Hae-jun shows up as her boyfriend. The two later bump into the realtor. Hae-jun tells Dal about his plan to gift Jeong-jae a flat.
Dal suggests he ask him before taking the decision. Hae-jun goes to Joeng-jae and shows him his balance and tells him about his plan of paying him back.
He tells him that he washed dishes and modelled to put together the money. This angers Jeong-jae. He asks him whether he has ever asked him to pay him back and asks him to leave. Hae-jun leaves and speaks to Dal, who calms him and asks him to apologize.
In the restaurant, Jeong-jae and Dae-wook find out that Hae-jun had a successful modelling career and are overjoyed at this discovery.
Ju-won finds out that San-ha is running a fever and goes to his place to take care of him. The restaurant business booms due to Hae-jun's newfound popularity in the neighbourhood.
Dae-wook meets with Joeng-hui who is still bitter and wants to take San-ha back after a month to take care of her. Frustrated, Dae-wook leaves.
Park Dal and Ju-won visit the restaurant and Dal receives a call from her mother who reprimands her for showing up with a boyfriend on the blind date.
Hae-jun receives a message from her aunt, informing him of his mother's whereabouts in episode 12 of Family by Choice. He finds her smiling happily in her parlor, which is now in Busan. Jeong-jae decides to meet her again and persuade her to meet Hae-jun.
Ju-won and San-ha get ready for a date. As they leave the building, they see Hae-jun sitting on a bench outside, looking upset. He tells them about his mother and goes to his room after thanking them.
They find out the address from his phone and decide to go to the location themselves. There, they find Jeong-jae already talking to her.
As they try to persuade her to speak to Hae-jun, she kneels to apologize. Meanwhile, Jeong-hui and So-hee show up at San-ha and Hae-jun's apartment.
With this, episode 12 of Family by Choice comes to an end.
