On September 1, 2024, BIGBANG member, Taeyang, held the second show of his ‘THE LIGHT YEAR’ solo concert tour in Seoul's Olympic Hall, South Korea. Fans (VIPs) were surprised to see BIG BANG members G-DRAGON and Daesung share the stage with Taeyang and perform at his concert on the songs, WE LIKE 2 PARTY.
Additionally, G-DRAGON and Taeyang also performed on Good Boy which went viral online. WE LIKE 2 PARTY was released by the group in June 2015 followed by Good Boy in November 2014. The second track was released by the band duo G-DRAGON and Taeyang.
Fans were sent into an online meltdown after watching Taeyang, G-DRAGON, and Daesung perform together on stage after seven years since 2017. One fan wrote on X,
"I’m hyperventilating! Finally for the first time in a long time, I’ve seen performer GDragon. Pinch me! Are we dreaming? #BIGBANG pa rin uuwi. The 3 of them performing together on stage. Is it our birthday??"
VIPs flooded X with clips from the concert show, expressing their joy and excitement. Videos of K-pop group SEVENTEEN members Seungkwan, Hoshi, and Dokyeon (DK) also went viral online after they were spotted at Taeyang's Day-2 solo concert in Seoul.
Fans noted how Seungkwan got emotional watching BIGBANG's G-DRAGON, Taeyang, and Daesung reunite on stage after a long time.
"A hug to all VIPs, enjoy this moment very much. We deserve it after suffering hate and attacks day after day. I hope in the future we can have more moments like this," one fan wrote.
"DAMN you can’t really mess with GDRAGON when it comes to stage presence, huh? He was out there performing “Good Boy” with Taeyang wearing only a cardigan, cargo pants and a shirt + cap but that swag?? As if he was styled for a concert stage! He’s so GOAT!" another fan wrote.
"BSS getting speechless when Good Boy came up. Seungkwan got teary eyed he even stopped filming. Then when GDragon and Taeyang started dancing the shoulder move, they were all amazed that they can’t believe it. Theyre just like us fr," another fan highlighted.
Others underscored how Taeyang casually dragged G-DRAGON on stage and the duo gave an electrifying performance on Good Boy with no prior rehearsals or soundcheck.
"When you thought you’re Taeyang number 1 fan but your competition is Gdragon and Daesung," one fan said.
"Today’s stage reminds me of the time Taeyang & Daesung supported GDRAGON at his OOAK concert in Japan. Taeyang was an official guest but Daesung made a surprise appearance because GD was injured. These 3 always supporting each other. I love them so much," another fan noted.
"NO REHEARSAL, NO SOUNDCHECK. TAEYANG literally just pulled GDRAGON out from the crowd & asked him to perform. Heck, GD is even in his comfy clothes ㅠㅠ but look at the stage presence & swag they have! Truly, Kings & goats of the stage never disappoint!" one other fan added.
More about South Korea's 2nd-Gen iconic band, BIGBANG
The band hasn't pursued group activities for years. In 2022, BIGBANG released Still Life, but they did not promote it. The group also didn't perform the song live or air it on television.
Meanwhile, band member Choi Seung-hyun, aka T.O.P., departed from the group in 2023 to pursue solo endeavors. Seungri was removed from the band in 2019 following the Burning Sun scandal involving prostitution and embezzlement.
G-DRAGON, on the other hand, hasn't taken the stage since BIGBANG's final pre-enlistment concert in Seoul in December 2017. He has maintained a low profile in the music industry after being released from the military in October 2019. He was embroiled in drug abuse speculations in October 2023, however, was later cleared of all charges.
Meanwhile, BIGBANG members Taeyang and Daesung both released their solo projects post their military enlistments. Daesung hosts a chat show, Jip Daesung, on YouTube. Daesung also released his song, Falling Slowly, starring South Korean actors Kim Seon-ho and Moon Ga-young on March 5, 2024.
BIGBANG's Taeyang also released an extended play Down to Earth, which contained the pre-release single, VIBE (feat. Jimin of BTS), released in January 2023. The EP also includes the track Shoong! (feat. Lisa of BLACKPINK), which was released on April 25, 2023.
Currently, G-DRAGON is reported to release his solo comeback album by the end of 2024.
