On Monday, October 7, the Korean media outlet, Chosun Ilbo reported that the former NCT member Taeil was sent to prosecution on charges of quasi-r*ape on September 12. Quasi-r*pe is a crime in South Korea where an individual engages in sexual intercourse with someone who is not in a state to resist or is unconscious.

In response to the report released by the Korean media outlet, SM Entertainment released a brief statement, responding to the same. Here's what the agency said:

“It is difficult to comment as the matter is currently under investigation.”

It was also revealed that he was indicted back in June on charges of sexual assault against a drunk woman with two of his acquaintances. The news initially landed on the internet on August 28. The idol was reportedly called in for questioning regarding his sexual crime.

Subsequently, SM Entertainment also released a statement expressing that Taeil has departed NCT. Here's what a part of their statement read:

"We have recently learned that Taeil has been charged with a criminal case related to sexual offenses. As we gathered the facts, we realized the seriousness of the case and decided that he could no longer continue to be a part of the team, and in consultation with Taeil, he has decided to leave the team."

They concluded their statement with,

"Taeil is cooperating fully with the police investigation and we will provide further comment as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for any offense our artist may have caused."

While the details of the idol's sexual crime were initially unveiled, it was recently revealed that he was accused of taking advantage of a drunk woman, along with his two unknown acquaintances, and is currently charged with quasi-r*pe. However, the idol's case will be moving forward with legal proceedings without him being detained.

Moon Tae-il, otherwise known as Taeil is a South Korean singer-songwriter who debuted under SM Entertainment alongside his fellow NCT members in 2016. The idol stood as a vocalist under the NCT and its subunits, NCT 127 and NCT U. He was also an active soloist with occasional OST and solo tracks.

Some of his solo works include Starlight, Because of You, etc. The 30-year-old K-pop idol was recently announced to have departed from NCT following the reveal of his sexual crime charges. SM Entertainment revealed that they were unaware of the idol's charges and were therefore delayed to respond to the situation.

Regardless, the idol still stands as an artist under SM Entertainment and his exclusive contract with the agency stays intact. On the other hand, all the NCT members and the official groups of NCT and NCT 127 have unfollowed the idol on his Instagram.

Several fans and netizens have also unfollowed him, making him lose over a million followers ever since his criminal charges. On the other hand, with the increase of criticism and negative comments flooding the idol's Instagram account, it was soon made private.

Regardless, there hasn't been a response or statement from the idol directly regarding his ongoing case and sexual crimes.
