On January 1, 2025, Chinese actress Zhao Lusi's agency, YinheKuyu Media, shared a statement addressing the former's health condition through Weibo application. The latest update from the media company sparked outrage from fans who believed that they were allegedly gaslighting her the whole time.
YinheKuyu Media stated that they have stood firmly alongside Ms. Zhao Lusi throughout the obstacles and difficulties that came along and actively resolved them. The agency commented that they fully accepted all reasonable feedback and sincerely reflected on and apologized for the shortcomings in their work. They further said:
"Since taking full responsibility for Ms. Zhao Lusi’s management, our ultimate goal has always been to prioritize her physical and mental health. Regarding work planning, we have made every effort to ensure fairness and clarity. Based on sufficient communication and mutual understanding, we strive to arrange and coordinate related tasks as reasonably as possible."
YinheKuyu Media further stated they would not tolerate the dissemination of malicious comments and rumors. The agency also apologized to the individuals hurt in the process. They concluded the statement by asking the public to provide the actress with time and space to heal.
Subsequently, the statement circulated on social media and went viral among the fandom and they expressed their outrage. An X user accused the media of compelling Zhao Lusi to overwork and tweeted:
"This is the biggest load of bs and gas lighting at a whole new level. They are the culprits who forced her to overwork. Now they are trying to come out of this as saints. Unbelievable."
The fandom cited the agency's statement as "useless." They also urged Zhao Lusi to leave the agency as soon as possible.
"Hope Zhao lusi will not listen to this useless statement of this company, they already it before I'm sure they can do it again, pls.leave that agency lusi,so many agency or company out there,I'm sure they're happy u can work for them, pls.dont renew your contract in KU,"- a fan reacted.
"So does this mean, Lusi will stay again with them and renew her contract?nothing is really addressed. please people who have Weibo advise Lusi to lawyer up,"- a fan shared.
"Releasing this after Lusi’s decision to open herself completely and leave nothing more for people to make up stuff, this company chose to be nonchalant. Like it’s just business as usual and no desire to address the emotional pain Lusi is undergoing,"- a fan commented.
"this agency is scary and shaddy af! like why r you replying like this when your biggest artis is clearly holding up a war flag against you, why r you acting like nothing is happening rn between you and lusi... god... im kinda scared reading this statement,"- a fan mentioned.
Internet users also criticized the agency for not releasing any statement when the Chinese actress was not healthy.
"lol this company didn't bother to release a statement about her condition and now they are here cause it hurt their reputation. lusi or her family should sue them honestly for abusing her mentally and physically,"- a user reacted.
"Only releasing this after lusi's post. Its not even sincere, they just did this as a pr. I don't even know who's they are trying to fool,"- a user shared.
"“We sincerely apologize to those who have been unfairly hurt or affected.” tf is this statement??? YOU, THE COMPANY, is the one that SHOULD apologize to Lusi as she is the one who is unfairly hurt and affected,"- a user commented.
"Who are they trying to fool with this polished, corporate apology? They're only trying to pacify the public without addressing the deeper issue. Why wasn’t Zhao Lusi’s well-being prioritized FROM THE START? Huh? It’s easy to release a statement now, but where was this so-called "support" when she was silently suffering through physical illnesses, mental health struggles, and outright abuse?,"- a user mentioned.
