South Korean rapper Qim Isle has shared his experience working with BTS’ RM on his second solo album Right Place, Wrong Person. On July 16, Poclanos released their interview with Qim Isle on his latest single, Adrenaline, featuring Marldn and Jclef which was dropped on June 25. While sharing his music-creating process, he also revealed some behind-the-scenes anecdotes of Right Place, Wrong Person.
Qim Isle has been credited for writing the lyrics and producing five out of eleven tracks on the album, including the title track LOST!, and side tracks like Nuts, Domodachi featuring Little Simz, Around the world in a day with Moses Sumney, and ㅠㅠ (Credits Roll).
Qim Isle is a Hip-Hop artist who is known for experimenting with other genres like Funk and Jazz. He was asked whether he faced any concerns in terms of music styles, as RM is widely popular for K-pop music. He stated that there were no concerns regarding this. However, the BTS leader was short on time as he was also preparing for his enlistment, which later happened in December 2023.
Qim Isle stated,
“Rather than Namjoon being a 'K-pop artist', there were parts where time passed quickly because he was an 'artist about to enlist'. I do regret not being able to communicate more due to the lack of time.”
Qim Isle reveals how he joined the production team for BTS’ RM's Right Place, Wrong Person
On Monday, June 24, BTS member RM dropped the album Right Place, Wrong Person, receiving praise from critics. He also released a music video of the titular tune LOST! creating excitement among fans. Billboard has listed the album as No. 1 on the Best K-pop album in 2024. It also made its place on Billboard’s Best 50 Albums Worldwide in 2024 so far.
The INDIGO singer collaborated with many independent artists and producers for his recent project. And, in a recent interview with Poclanos, Qim Isle revealed how he joined the production team of RM’s second album. The hip-hop rapper shared that he had previously avoided participating as he doubted he would be good at this music style.
He was approached by some independent artists working on the same project and asked to join the team.
He stated,
“I thought it would be fun to collaborate with various people and learn about their approaches to music and the points they value (when working). I participated in Song Camp and had a lot of fun working with them, more than I expected.”
Qim Isle also shared what he learned from the music-making process while working with the BTS rapper. According to him, the Persona singer was clear and clean in his direction with a vision of creating an alternative album. Qim Isle also revealed that Around the world in a day was originally supposed to be on his album.
The Right Place, Wrong Person B-Side song underwent crucial changes and finally became a part of Kim Namjoon’s album.
He stated,
“I learned through that process that 'things can change like this. Separately, the fact that I was able to work with Moses Sumney and RM was a special feeling. It felt different to hear a world-renowned artist sing the song."
