Highlights from BTS' Jin's exclusive trivia interview with Harper's Bazaar Korea
The video kicked off with the 31-year-old comically pointing out a question as being terrible and being visibly flustered when asked if he dreams of re-enlisting in the army. As Jin dubbed the guitar outfit as the most alluring out of the others, he commenced the trivia interview by noting it as 'A Dictionary of Useful Miscellaneous Things to Know.'
The Tonight singer revealed not having seen the questions before the interview's filming. He was handed a book full of questions and began by filling out an Author Information page, opting for his stage name Jin instead of his full name.
He went on to fill out his debut date with BTS, his MBTI type (INTP). While he was momentarily perplexed while writing down his personal color, he revealed that during his elementary school days, he used to make nicknames based on his name, like 'Gimbap' and 'Kimchi'.
The first question asked about any memorable moments from BTS' Jin's recent experience as a torchbearer for the South Korean team at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. He responded that while it was overwhelming amongst so many overlapping noises, a French fan's interview stuck with him. He said:
"I remember seeing an interview where a French fan said they waited for a year and a half for the military service, so what's the problem with waiting 6 to 8 hours? They said they could wait longer. That really stuck with me."
Jin next revealed that he is obsessed with playing tennis these days, recalling that he played tennis with school students, where he was embarrassed after losing with a score of 20-0. Despite this, he stated that he is the best player among his friends and shared that he had learned the jackknife tennis technique.
"I learned a tennis technique called the jackknife, but I did it naturally even before I was taught it. Oh! Actually, I might have been a tennis pro!! (Laughs)," he added.
When asked if he dreams about re-enlisting in the army, he hilariously dismissed it at first as an awful question but answered that he did dream about it but has now forgotten the dream. He also described his favorite emojis using facial expressions.
He further shared an intriguing warm-up technique he uses before live performances, which is like screaming. When questioned about when was the last time he rode a bike, Jin answered it was to and from work before his conscription. Reminded by the interviewer, he recalled riding a bike in the Festa (The Astronaut) after he returned from the military.
Kim Seok-jin, aka BTS' Jin, further disclosed that he prefers wearing comfortable clothes and admitted that his rock outfit for the guitar cover of his upcoming Harper's Bazaar Korea pictorial was "s*xy." Despite being a conservative person, he thought the clothes suited him well. He stated:
"According to me, the guitar outfit is the s*xiest look. I'm a conservative person so I don't usually wear s*xy outfits like this. It matched the guitar quite well so I liked it a lot."
In the interview, the BTS member stated he does not have a good memory, and that is something he wishes people would not be upset about. He added that he remembered vividly all the happy moments he spent with ARMYs. During the conversation, he shared that while he is someone who takes care of his belongings, he left behind his comfort pillow at a hotel.
"Ah... You know, I'm someone who’s really careful with their belongings—I almost never lose anything. Even with things like lip balm, I use them until they're completely finished. But my comfort pillow... I left it behind at a hotel," the idol stated.
He also had some unusual ideas for if he were to create self-produced content:
"Spending 1 billion won in an hour? That’s actually quite challenging, right? Then... Boxing with Tyson-ssi. But even if he used just one finger, it’d still be dangerous. He’d take it easy on me, right? I also enjoy doing quirky things, like a long-jump competition with fleas."
He then recalled an anecdote about recently going to a Gucci store in France to buy only white-colored T-shirts.
When asked about his most memorable moment, he picked BTS winning their first daesang at the Melon Music Awards (2016). The idol asserted:
"The most memorable moment? Ah, there were so many happy moments, but if I had to choose the most memorable one, it would be when we won our first award at the Melon Music Awards. I cried a lot back then."
For the final question, he chose Spring Day to be the song he would sing for ARMYs if a full-group concert took place for the 12th anniversary, explaining the song is not much included in setlists.
BTS' eldest put on his playful side, saying the book he filled up with his answers would be sold at bookstores for 154,700 won. However, it was just Jin being his prankful self, as the book is not really for sale, and he later admitted the same.
Jin asked fans to look forward to the September edition of Harper's Bazaar Korea x Gucci featuring him. He blew his famous flying kiss towards the camera, concluding the interview.
