"He just keeps winning" — Fans lavish praise as BTS' Jimin wins 'Best K-Pop' category at the 2024 MTV EMAs

On Monday, November 11, 2024, BTS' Jimin won his first MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) award for the Best K-pop category for his song, WHO. The K-pop sensation has been serving his mandatory enlistment in the Republic of Korea Army since December 2023, hence he wasn't able to attend the award ceremony in Manchester, England.

The Best K-pop category was first introduced at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards. BTS became the first K-pop band to win the category the same year. Meanwhile, the MUSE singer-songwriter became the second BTS member to win the award as a solo artist after his bandmate Jungkook.

The BTS vocalist released his second mini-album, MUSE, with the title track, WHO, on July 19, 2024. The song charted on the UK Official Chart for 16 consecutive weeks. It also topped the U.S. Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global 200 (Excl. US) charts. WHO charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for 15 weeks in a row after opening at No. 14.

The BTS fanbase rejoiced over the Grammy-nominated musician's latest win and flooded X. One fan wrote:

"Imagine hating him and he just keeps winning."

Fans lauded the K-pop idol for his achievement and showered him with wishes.

"I'm not even into K-pop much these days..but any loser who speaks ill of Jimin will spontaneously combust and go to the lowest of hell," one fan wrote.
"The difference, park Jimin you’ll always be the everyone’s obsession and the main character," another fan said.
"Congratulations from the bottom of my heart, keep moving ahead in life and progress a lot. You stay on top like this," another fan added.

Several BTS ARMYs hailed him as the "Pride of K-pop" and "global IT boy of our generation."

"He has shown relentless growth and excellence in his music and performances. Pride of K-pop," one fan said.
"The best news I’ve heard today!!! Congratulations jimin you deserve this so much," another fan commented.
"The global it boy of our generation," one other fan wrote.

Outside his work with BTS, Jimin has garnered attention for his solo tracks, including Lie, Serendipity, Promise, and Filter. These tracks, originally part of BTS albums, amassed millions of streams globally, with Filter breaking records as one of the most-streamed Korean solo songs on Spotify.

In 2023, he made history with his official solo debut album, FACE, which includes hit singles like Like Crazy. The track quickly topped the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first South Korean solo artist to achieve this feat.

In terms of philanthropic activities, in 2020, Sports Donga reported that he donated significant amounts to educational and social welfare initiatives in South Korea, including donations to his alma mater, Busan High School of Arts. He provided 400 desks and chairs for third-year students at the Busan Arts High School.

In 2023, Busan Ilbo reported that the BTS idol donated 30 million KRW (approximately $21,476.66) as a scholarship fund for the Busan Arts High School students. The Grammy-nominated artist has donated over 160 million won (approximately $114,589.44) to his alma mater.


In other news, BTS' Jimin will return from the military in June 2025 and resume music activities.
