Netflix released its latest Korean cooking reality show, Culinary Class Wars, on September 17, 2024. The show brought together 100 cooks from diverse backgrounds vying to prove their culinary expertise.

Chef Anh Sung-jae of the three-starred Mosu Seoul restaurant and restaurateur Paik Jong-won are the show's judges. Celebrity chef Paik Jong-won is well-known for his honors and television credits, including 2021's Paik's Spirit.

Meanwhile, on September 27, 2024, Chef Paik uploaded a video titled "This Isn’t a Black and White Chef: Culinary Class War, But My Cringe-Worthy Past!" on his YouTube channel. Fans of the show were amused to read the title and posted about it on X.

The video featured a snippet from Culinary Class Wars episode 7, where Chef Paik had to taste the participants' dishes with a blindfold. One fan wrote on X,

""This is not Culinary Class Wars, but my embarrassing dark history" Pls he's so hilarious"

Viewers praised Chef Paik's humor and said they would love to watch more such content from him.

"I cant help but laugh at this judging system. Also putting a refined dish into one bite doesnt sound pleasant to ME," one fan wrote.
"lmao paik jongwon new culinary class wars content, I WILL BE THERE," another fan wrote.
"You will have to tell me about its taste with your eyes closed, how it taste......." another fan added.

Others lauded him as the "funniest" and "cutest" chef they had seen on a reality cooking show.

"Made me laugh every time. Anyway when will they release ep 8???" one fan commented.
"This is so hilarious! Imagine being a celebrity chef where you have to taste food with a blindfold on. Bake Jongwon is so funny to even post it on YouTube. Iconic!!!!!" another fan said.
"Cutest and funniest patootie I have ever seen. Chef Paik is literally the best!!" one other fan wrote.

Culinary Class Wars' participants range from Michelin Star chefs running their own restaurants to "underdog" cooks from various backgrounds. The spotlight on each participant highlights their individual struggles and journeys so far. For instance, one participant learned how to cook from comic books.

The competitors were split up from the start: 20 seasoned chefs were called "White Spoons" and competed under their true identities. Meanwhile, the other 80 competitors were called "Black Spoons". They competed under aliases like Triple-star, Auntie Omakase #1, Comic Book Chef, Cooking Maniac, Master of School Meals, Napoli Matfia, and Self-Made Chef, among others.

The official synopsis on Netflix states,

"Eighty "Black Spoon" underdog cooks with a knack for flavor face 20 elite "White Spoon" chefs in a fierce cooking showdown among 100 contenders."
