How old is Taeil? SM Entertainment announces withdrawal of the singer from NCT following sexual offense allegations

On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment announced Taeil's removal from NCT after he was booked for sexual assault. In its statement, the agency wrote that the 30-year-old K-pop idol was charged with a criminal lawsuit for a sexual offense. After verifying with the police, the company removed him from NCT and its sub-unit NCT 127.

"This is SM Entertainment. We have recently confirmed that Taeil has been implicated in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. After verifying the facts related to this matter and recognizing the seriousness of the situation, we have determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team and have decided to remove him from the group after discussions with him."

The K-pop artist and the label have amicably agreed to his departure from the renowned musical group. The entertainment firm reported that he has been cooperating with the police in their investigation into his alleged offenses.

"Currently, Taeil is sincerely cooperating with the police investigation, and we will make further statements depending on the progress of the investigation. We deeply apologize for the concern and trouble caused by our artist," the agency said.

NCT and NCT 127 unfollows Taeil on Instagram after he was implicated in an alleged sexual crime

After Taeil left the groups, NCT and NCT 127 removed him from their social media profiles. In addition, Taeyong, Doyoung, and Haechan unfollowed him on Instagram within an hour of the news's release, shocking fans.

As per Chosun Ilbo, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station stated that this lawsuit does not include sexual crimes against minors of the same gender.

"This is not an investigation into sexual crimes against minors of the same sex."

Additionally, Lee In Chun, the director of the youth and women’s division at the Seoul Bangbae Police Station, stated that they are looking into the exact information of the case and will update accordingly.

Korea JoongAng Daily reported on August 28 that despite the 30-year-old idol's removal from NCT 127 amidst his ongoing sexual assault case, SM Entertainment hasn't terminated its contract with him.
