On December 7, 2024, VCHA's KG announced her departure from the five-member girl group and terminated her contract with JYP Entertainment. In her recent Instagram Story, KG Crown disclosed that she filed a lawsuit against the company alleging them of abuse and mistreatment.
For those unaware, VCHA is a K-Pop music band that began as a six-member group in September 2023. The cohort of six nascent artists comprised two underage individuals. Camila and Lexi are 19 years old, while Kendall and Savanna are 18. The remaining two members, KG and Kaylee, are 17 and 15 years old, respectively.
Managed by JYP Entertainment, aka JYPE, VCHA officially debuted in January 2024.
VCHA's KG left the group and terminated her contract with JYPE
KG Crown revealed on her Instagram story that she initiated legal proceedings to cancel her agreement with JYP Entertainment and quit VCHA following incidents of harassment and mistreatment by several employees. She stated that the environment was detrimental to her mental well-being and expressed regret if her decision to step away disappointed her followers.
Additionally, she expressed her disapproval of the working and living environment that prompted one of the members to attempt suicide, along with voicing her opposition to an environment where members tried to self-harm.
“I am not in support of the working and living conditions that led a member to attempt suicide. Nor do I support an environment that encourages eating disorders and has caused members to self har,” she remarked.
KG Crown disclosed that she reached her decision in May of this year when she was only 16. Although she chose to depart, she expressed concern for the other members of the group.
Further into the Instagram Story, she asserted that she would be unable to become the artist she aspired to be while at JYP Entertainment. She also disclosed the financial difficulties she has had, coupled with the severe constraints on her personal life.
“I also realized if I remain at JYP Entertainment, I am not able to become the artist I aspire to be, as I really enjoy songwriting and production. I have accumulated a massive amount of company debt, while being paid very little for the intense work and extreme limitations on our personal lives," KG wrote.
KG Crown also took the opportunity to thank the company's executive, J.Y.Park, the company executives, staff, and their training program. In her lengthy statement, she further voiced her fondness for Korean culture and K-Pop music.
VCHA's member concluded her letter by stating that she would not hold anyone accountable for the treatment she experienced but noted this issue was deeply ingrained in the K-Pop industry. She hoped that her departure might motivate the K-Pop industry to implement improvements that would safeguard its idols and trainees.
In related news, VCHA has been on a hiatus since May of this year. Earlier, in July 2024, the girl group also withdrew their name from the performances lineup for the 2024 Lollapalooza festival.
