On October 7, the New Yorker Magazine reported that BTS’ Jungkook declined the offer of performing live at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show due to his two-month early enlistment in the military service. The Super Bowl was held in February, and the Seven singer left for his service in December 2023.

Reportedly, Usher invited the BTS member to perform Standing Next To You at the Super Bowl show, but the BTS member rejected his invitation. This was supposed to be the first Super Bowl performance by a K-pop artist.

The recent revelation regarding Jungkook's potential performance at the Super Bowl disheartened his followers. Fans extensively condemned the singer's management firm, HYBE, for failing to postpone his enlistment and for losing an important opportunity. Fans inundated the internet with their reactions to the situation, with the majority attributing blame on HYBE, as expressed on X:

“HYBE STOP SABOTAGING JUNGKOOK”

Many other mixed responses from the BTS singer's admirers were recorded online. While one called HYBE greedy, another referred to Super Bowl as a ‘once in a lifetime stage.’

“It's us JK Stans that are rípped apart to know what an opportunity was missed by JK.. because of his enlightenment. I just hope JK was alright, no regrets. Please otherwise this wound will never heal for us too. I am sure he will be blessed a trillion folds over and more.”- stated a fan.
“What an incredible once in a lifetime stage we missed, This is the insane level Jungkook has reached with his DEBUT album. We will get more stages and Jungkook will keep shining brighter and brighter.”- remarked an admirer.
“nothing to do with the military service and everything to do with greedy hybe”- wrote an X user.

One X user questioned why this information was revealed almost a year later. Another fan alluded to Jeon Jung-kook as the ‘main pop boy.’

“I am more interested in the question of why this information has surfaced now, almost a year later? A stitch in time saves nine... Isn't it..”- another user on X commented.
“This is so shocking who in the world wouldn’t want to perform on the super bowl this could have been the biggest moment of his career on the us especially I can’t believe he had to reject it……”- stated another fan.
“Who gets an opportunity to perform in super bowl just with his debut song?!??? jungkook truly is the main pop boy”- expressed another X user.
“It’s unfortunate that he had to decline due to enlistment. However, on a positive note, Jungkook will be coming next year and will have many more opportunities to shine. There’s no need to place blame; he’s an adult who knows what’s best for himself.”- wrote a fan.

BTS' Jungkook’s Standing Next To You was released in November 2023

The BTS member’s hit single Standing Next To You came out on November 3, 2023. This song belonged to his debut solo album, GOLDEN. He collaborated with Usher for a remix version of the song.

On September 23, the idol's Standing Next to You turned out to be the fastest solo song by an Asian artist to surpass 900 million streams on Spotify. With this achievement, he became the first and only Asian and K-pop solo artist to have three songs exceed 900 million plays on Spotify. The remaining two tracks by Jungkook are Seven and L&R.

Additionally, on September 27, his track received BRIT-certified Silver status in the UK for exceeding 200,000 units in sales. With this recent certification, he became the K-soloist with the highest number of UK Silver certifications. Jeon Jung-kook has achieved this certification with his other independent tracks: Seven, L&R, and Golden.
