BTS rapper Min Yoongi, who goes by his stage name Suga, made headlines for reportedly driving under the influence. On August 7, 2024, South Korean media outlet News 1 reported that the Grammy-nominated musician was drunk driving a foldable electric kickboard while returning home from dinner.

Suga drove 500 meters to reach his house and parked the vehicle in front of his door when he accidentally fell down. In his apology statement, the Life Goes On rapper-songwriter clarified that a police officer near his home saw him and came to assist him. The police officer then requested Suga for a blow test.

Suga's blood alcohol content at the time was 0.08% or greater, which resulted in the revocation of his license for a few days and a fine for breaking the Road Traffic Act. For the unversed, an electric kickboard is a foldable e-scooter that operates through a wireless remote or switch. The low-motor vehicle has a maximum speed of 30 mph, equivalent to a bicycle's speed.

Meanwhile, the BTS ARMY couldn't find anything funnier than the situation and shared hilarious memes online. Fans stated that the biggest scandal in the idol's life was him falling down in front of his house. One fan wrote on X,

"I can’t be the only one that laughed"

Others shared memes of cats sitting or riding an electric kickboard and joked about "freeing" Min Yoongi.

"Yoongi outside his house:" one fan wrote.
"Too illegal," one fan joked.
"Free min yoongi," another fan shared.

BTS Suga's DUI case gets scrutinized by the media and the public

According to the Yongsan police, the BTS idol was taken to the nearest police station after the concerned officer assisted him up in front of the former's house in Hannam-dong. Suga's blood alcohol content was recorded between 0.08% to 0.2% as per the blow test.

It is crucial to note that in several European countries, a 0.02% blood alcohol content is categorized as a "zero tolerance level drinking," meaning that the driver is considered to be under the safest driving limit. UK Drug & Alcohol Safety Experts reported that a zero tolerance level of 20 mg/100 ml (0.02%BAC) is advised for drivers of commercial vehicles, and it is considered that they are alcohol-free.

As per the police report, News 1 stated that the BTS idol mentioned having a single glass of beer at dinner before returning to his home on August 6, 2024. Suga issued an apology letter via Weverse on August 7 and wrote,

"There were no people or facilities damaged in this incident, but I would like to bow down and apologize to everyone because it is my inexcusable responsibility."

In other news, the Military Affairs Administration of South Korea released its statement on the BTS idol's incident. They stated that since the accident happened outside of the workplace and outside of working hours, they would not take action against Suga because the matter was outside their purview.
