Before the release of Empress Woo, Jeon Jong-seo faced allegations of school violence. On August 27, 2024, at a press conference for the series, she denied the rumors. The allegations, which first appeared on a workplace community app in April 2024, claimed she was involved in bullying and violent behavior in school. Her company had already denied these claims, but this was her first public response.
"As I stated through my company, it is not true at all. If that were true, I would not be here confidently promoting my drama. I regret being involved in such an incident," she said.
Jeon Jong-seo's bullying controversy
On April 3, 2024, an anonymous post on the South Korean workplace community app Blind, initiated the controversy, alleging that Jeon Jeong-seo was a bully in middle school. The author of the post claimed that the 29-year-old actress would "frequently steal or snatch away other kids' gym clothes and uniforms."
They also added that just seeing Jeon's face brings back those unpleasant memories. However, on April 5, a post was published on the online community Nate Pann which defended Jeon Jong-seo. The author claimed to be the actress' former classmate. The author refuted the rumors about Jong-seo's violent behavior.
According to the post, the actress was class president and has always been friendly towards others. The translated post read:
"(In terms of her) she was always the class president, so I really don't understand who is claiming to have been bullied by her. She has never shown any violent behaviour, nor would she steal money? She is not that kind of person. Jeon Jong-seo didn't lack anything."
To verify their claims of being the Jeon Jong-seo classmate, the author shared their graduation certificate which provided weight to their statements.
This was Wedding Impossible actress second controvery this year as she was surrounded in a 'no-seatbelt controversy' as well in July 2024. The pictures grabbed attention with many calling out Jong-seo for not wearing a seat belt. Later, she clarified through a picture she posted on her Instagram story which showcased the actress wearing the seatbelt in a similar setting inside the car.
