Actor Park Sung-hoon, known for his role in the highly anticipated Squid Game 2, recently addressed a controversy involving the accidental post of explicit content on his social media. According to South Korean media outlet Sports Chosun, the actor apologized tearfully for his mistake during an interview promoting the Netflix series, expressing regret over the concerns it caused.
Speaking at a press interview in Seoul, Park Sung-hoon opened with an apology, thanking attendees and expressing his remorse.
"First of all, I would like to express my sincere apology because I think I have caused inconvenience and concern to many people due to my recent big mistake. I'm sorry. More than ever, I came here with a really heavy and nervous heart," the actor stated.
Park Sung-hoon further stressed that he had not viewed the video associated with the image. Pausing multiple times during the interview, he admitted to being deeply shaken by the backlash and described the self-reflection he has undergone since the incident.
"I deleted the picture right away and of course I didn't even watch the video. On the other hand, I use a secondary account, and I know you told me that you made a mistake while trying to upload it to a secondary account. I don't own a secondary account at all, I only have one, " the actor said.
The Glory star Park Sung-hoon talks about his explicit Instagram story in detail
Park Sung-hoon explained the incident in detail, describing how the image first appeared in his direct messages while preparing for a schedule. Feeling it was inappropriate, he intended to address the issue but accidentally uploaded it to his story.
Park clarified that he only manages one social media account and denied having a secondary profile, refuting some circulating rumors. He stated,
"I found the photo in the DM (direct message) that was the problem while I was getting ready to rush out because I had a schedule around lunch that day. It was the first week the work was released at that time, and it was only a few days ago, so it was time to continue to exchange reactions from many viewers with the person in charge."
Park Sung-hoon continued,
"But I was so shocked when I found the picture, and I thought this would be a problem, so I thought there was a mistake in the process of delivering the picture. It's hard for me to understand what happened, but after a while, it went up to 'Story,' and I was so flustered that I talked to the person in charge on the phone that 'I think the problem is serious.'"
For those unaware, the issue arose in late December 2024 when Park Sung-hoon uploaded an explicit AV parody image related to Squid Game on his Instagram story. Although the post was deleted immediately, it sparked widespread backlash online.
Fans and netizens questioned the nature of the upload, with many expressing disappointment, especially given the timing of his acclaimed performance in the series.
Park Sung-hoon's role in Squid Game 2 as Hyun-joo (player 120), a transgender character navigating personal challenges, has been widely praised, adding to the series' global success. Despite the controversy, he vowed to continue his acting career with renewed responsibility and respect for his audience and colleagues.
Meanwhile, Squid Game 2 continues to dominate global charts on Netflix, solidifying its place as one of the platform's most popular non-English series.
