BTS’ Suga, who is currently completing his military service, made headlines for reportedly drinking and driving after a dinner. This has now been confirmed as the K-pop singer made a statement on Weverse. On August 6, MBC News reported that Suga drove an electric kickboard while drunk.
According to the reports, he fell off an electric kickboard in Yongsan district and the police informed the media that Suga took the breathalyzer test and the results found alcohol content. On August 7, the singer himself took to Weverse and formally apologized for the violation of road traffic rules while serving in the military. This Weverse post was his first post after getting enlisted for the mandatory military conscription.
He said,
“Hello, I'm Suga. I feel very heavy and sorry to come to you with disappointment. After drinking at the dinner table last night, I got home on an electric kickboard.”
The BTS rapper explained that there were no property damages or casualties however stated that his actions were inexcusable. He further added,
“There were no people or facilities damaged in this process, but I would like to bow down and apologize to everyone because it is my inexcusable responsibility. I apologize to everyone who has been hurt by my careless and wrong behavior, and I will be more careful with my actions so that this does not happen in the future.”
BIGHIT MUSIC releases an official statement regarding BTS’ Suga's drunk driving incident amid military service
On Wednesday, August 7, a day after Suga's drunk driving incident, BIGHIT MUSIC took to Weverse to address the issue to fans and netizens who expressed their concerns for the BTS member.
He violated traffic law because of driving while drunk on an electric kickboard which resulted in the revocation of his driving license and a fine.
The agency stated the singer drove around 500m on the electric scooter before parking it near his house. BIGHIT MUSIC also confirmed that there were no casualties or damage to any facilities that occurred because of this.
They said,
“On the night of August 6, Suga used a helmet while driving an electric scooter home after drinking. He had driven around 500m before he parked and fell down.”
They further added,
“No casualties occurred through the incident; neither was any property damaged. He was escorted home by the police.”
The agency formally apologized to the fans and people who have been hurt by this incident involving their artist. The BTS member is serving as a public service agent for his military service and according to the agency, his action was deemed to be inappropriate.
They said,
“We apologize for disappointing many people through our artist's unsavory actions. As a public service officer, he conducted himself in a manner that caused rife in society, and thus, he plans on duly receiving the appropriate punishment from his workplace. We will be even more cautious to prevent similar matters from occurring in the future.”
Suga began his military service on September 22, 2023, under an alternative position in the public service. According to Yonhap, he was reportedly unfit for regular combat service and his agency has not revealed the details regarding his position. However, it is said that this was because of the surgery on his shoulder in 2020. The BTS member is to be discharged in 2025.
