Ahead of the release of the domestic OTT drama Love in the Big City on TVING, all promotional trailer videos have been removed. The trailer for Love in the Big City, featuring Nam Yoon-su and Jin Ho-eun, was released on August 30, 2024. The preview highlighted a Boy Love (BL) storyline between the two main characters.

On October 12, writer Park Sang Young revealed on his social media accounts that Love in the Big City had been targeted by certain groups of people. This led to a flood of complaints from various organizations. As a result, all official trailers were taken down. The writer expressed his anger about this situation.

"I thought I was used to this kind of thing after 8 years of working as a writer, but I can't seem to get used to the true face of disgust no matter how much I experience it", he said.

Trailers for Love in the Big City pulled amid homosexuality controversy; writer expresses anger and vows to ensure release on October 21

The series is an adaptation of the novel Love in the Big City by Park Sang Young. The writer, on October 12, took to his social media to express his frustration. His post, alongside a poster of the drama revealed that the show had been specifically targeted by a particular group, eventually causing the trailers to be taken down.

In the post, he stated,

"Due to the coordinates being set and the related department receiving a lot of complaints, I had to take down all the official trailers."

Reflecting on the difficulties faced during the promotion of the drama, he expressed anger.

"It's only 9 days before the drama opens, but I couldn't sleep all night because I was so angry that I couldn't promote it at all", he stated.

Despite the setback, the writer emphasized his commitment towards ensuring that the series is launched as planned, on October 21st. Additionally, he urged audiences to support the drama.

"I'm looking for a way to resume advertising. No matter what happens, it will definitely be released on October 21. Everyone, please spread the word about the drama Love in the Big City far and wide and share lots of stories! Above all, please enjoy it! Either way, in the end, we'll win!", he said.

Previously, after promoting the trailer on his Instagram, Nam received a blend of negative comments as well as supportive messages. Many fans praised the representation of queer narratives in Korean media and expressed their encouragement for the project.


Love in the Big City: more about the drama's plot

Based on the novel by Park Sang Young, the drama follows Go Yeong as he experiences a deep love with Gyu Ho but is ultimately forced to let him go. After Gyu Ho departs, Go Yeong takes a spontaneous trip to Thailand with a stranger. In Thailand, he reflects on cherished memories and undergoes significant personal growth.

The story explores themes of love, denial, and self-discovery. It emphasizes the transformative relationship between Go Yeong and Gyu Ho. The drama stars Nam Yoon-su and Jin Ho-eun. The supporting cast includes Lee Soo-kyung, Lee Se-he, Oh Hyun-kyung, and Kwon Hyuk.


Love in the Big City is scheduled to premiere on TVING on October 21, 2024. The drama will consist of eight episodes in total.
