On September 20, 2024, Netflix released the official trailer for Squid Game 2. The show is set to be aired on the streaming service just after Christmas on December 26, 2024. The first season of Squid Game was aired on Netflix in 2021 and became a global sensation.

The story revolves around an underground game where 456 people compete for an enormous cash reward of 45.6 billion won ($34.3 million). The only catch: everyone will have to die, leaving a single winner in the game. The latest Squid Game 2 trailer opened with the tagline,

“The game will not stop”

The trailer took viewers back to when 456 poverty-stricken and desperate people in need of money signed up for a mysterious game. The teaser starts with Lee Jung-jae waking up from a nightmare in the present.

The Front Man (the game's controller) was seen briskly making his way inside the control room while troops in their iconic pink uniforms and masks gathered with guns. The trailer ended with Lee Jung-jae waking up once again only to find himself in the No. 456 green uniform from season 1.

Netizens were impressed with the new trailer of Squid Game 2. One X user said,

"holy i got shivers"

Many fans of Squid Game expressed excitement at having predicted that Lee Jung-jae will return in season 2.

"Ahhh I’m so ready for this!!" one netizen wrote.
"I knew it main character find way back in the game. Pretty much come like old man season one," another X user added.
"Ooo! All the good shows are coming back this winter! First arcane, now squid game!" one other fan stated.

Others wonder why Netflix is releasing Squid Game 2 on December 26, a day after Christmas. However, they expressed their excitement for the upcoming release.

"Feel like a December 26th release date is a massive blunder tbh. If they had done it like 2 weeks prior to Halloween that would make more sense but like Christmas time???" one X user said.
"Because all of us feel like they are in the Squid Game when you have to deal with families at Christmas post this election. In fact, many us would prefer to be in this show rather than deal with some politically loud relatives this Christmas," another netizen joked.
"I don't like to say this nor do I say this lightly: there is no in-between, this WILL either be amazing or mind-numbingly bad. Hoping for the former," one other netizen added.

Squid Game 2 brings forth a stellar cast of Lee Jung-jae, Im Siwan, and Park Gyu-young, among others

Season 1 became the most-watched non-English television series on Netflix, with two billion hours viewed on the platform over an approximate eight-hour run time and around 265 million total views. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk bagged the Emmy for "Outstanding Direction for a Drama Series," while lead actor Lee Jung-jae won the Emmy for "Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series."

In 2023, Netflix confirmed the return of Gi-hun, Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and Recruiter (Gong Yoo), which has stirred buzz online. Wi Ha-joon's return to Squid Game 2 also increased anticipation, but the actor might not be playing a prominent role.

"I'm not playing a major role this time. I've returned alive, and the story just shows what I'm up to. I approached it with a mindset of 'Let's say hello one more time', there is nothing that will leave a huge impact," he said in "Shin Dong Yup" YouTube interview.

Squid Game 2 will also have Park Gyu-young, Im Siwan, BIGBANG's T.O.P., and Sweet Home actor Lee Jin-uk joining the cast. Here's the complete list of the all-new cast:

  • Im Si-wan (Summer Strike)
