On Wednesday, October 16, the South Korean rapper and K-pop soloist Jessi was called in for investigations at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The investigation was regarding the recent case where a fan of the artist was assaulted by an unidentified man on September 29 on a street in Apujeong, Seoul.

The rapper arrived at the police station at 10:05 PM KST, and before entering the police station, she talked to the reporters about the incident. She said:

"I hope they find the person who hit him quickly, and that he gets punished. I will tell them [the police] everything as it happened.

She was also asked by the reporters if she had seen the assailant before. To which she answered no and said that the incident was her first encounter with the man. Additionally, she also apologized to the victim for the incident.

"I saw him for the first time. I'm really sorry."

This was also confirmed by the artist's lawyer. The lawyer stated:

"It's true she saw the assailant for the first time that day, and we will provide an explanation after the investigation."

The investigation reportedly took place for over 6 hours. For context, on October 11, an 18-year-old male confessed that he was assaulted by a man when he approached Jessi to ask for a photo. The incident happened in the early morning of September 29, when the fan approached Jessi to request a photo, which she declined.

However, a male company of the artist reportedly blocked him further and began to allegedly swear at him in English. The idol stepped in between to resolve the issue. At this time, unexpectedly, another man entered the scene and began to assault the fan. While the artist initially tried to stop the fight, she later began to move away and eventually left the scene.

This was revealed through the CCTV footage of the incident. Therefore, the victim's report expressed that he was disappointed to see Jessi walk away when someone was being assaulted. Here's what he said according to his informant report to the Gangnam Police station:

"Someone was being hit, and I don't know if Jessi ran away to avoid involvement, but I was really let down. Even in the video, she just stood by, and as a fan, it was quite disappointing."

The police informed that the assailant was a Chinese acquaintance of Jessi's known producer. However, when the police investigated the producer, he expressed that the artist didn't know or wasn't acquainted with the assailant.

Jessi released an apology statement regarding the recent incident of her fan being assaulted by an unidentified man

On October 12, the South Korean rapper and K-pop soloist, Jessi, released a statement on Instagram expressing that she's deeply apologetic about the incident. She not only explained what exactly happened on the morning of September 29 but also expressed the reasons behind her actions. She said:

"Recently, during a private gathering with acquaintances, a fan requested a photo. However, because it was late at night, I politely declined twice. At that moment, a nearby individual whom I had seen that night for the first time suddenly assaulted the fan. Because I also was too shocked by the sudden turn of events, I was not able to show my consideration toward the fan."

The idol continued:

"Irrespective of the exact details of the incident, I express immense regret that the victim suffered from such an act of injustice, and I feel morally responsible."
"Soon after the incident, my label and I contacted the mother of the victim, and we are currently working to ensure that she quickly finds the culprit and receives a proper apology and due compensation, and that the culprit faces proper punishment."

She concluded her statement by requesting netizens not to see the incident completely through a one-sided lens. Therefore, she asked people for their understanding of her actions during the incident.
