I'm Sorry, I Love You, one of the highly watched K-dramas of the early 2000s, is making a comeback in a new, reimagined format. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Korean streaming platform Wavve released its posters. Wavve has embarked on its "New Classic" project, which aims to revive iconic dramas from the past, including My Lovely Sam Soon and I'm Sorry, I Love You.

The remade series will premiere exclusively on the aforementioned platform on November 22, featuring a special 2024 Director's Cut edition. Another unique element of this remake is the updated soundtrack.

As part of this remake, the traditional 16-episode format, each running around 70 minutes, has been restructured into a condensed series spanning only 6-8 episodes. Each new episode will range from 40 to 50 minutes, enhancing accessibility for today's viewers while retaining the depth of the original story.

I'm Sorry, I Love You: Plot and what to expect

The original storyline of I'm Sorry, I Love You centers on Cha Moo-hyuk, a man adopted by an Australian family but forced into a life of abuse and homelessness. After years of suffering, he meets Song Eun-chae, a coordinator secretly in love with Korean singer Choi Yune.

Their unexpected connection brings upheaval, especially as Moo-hyuk, left with only three months to live after a tragic accident, returns to Korea to find his birth mother. His quest reveals painful secrets, igniting a desire for revenge. However, amid the darkness, Moo-hyuk unexpectedly finds love, offering him a glimmer of redemption.

The new version, however, will have a few changes.

In an interview with The Korea Herald, Han Jeong-eun, who is the Chief Marketing Officer at Wavve, said:

"We edited the series to have the story focus primarily on the protagonist, cutting out unnecessary elements. The order of the plot will change slightly, and some scenes will be structured in a flashback format, allowing for a more fluid and speedy progression of plot."

This revamped format will also highlight how societal norms and values in Korea have shifted over the past two decades, offering a modern lens on timeless themes. Wavve has collaborated with popular contemporary singers to bring a fresh, emotional dimension to the story, aligning with current musical tastes while honoring the show's original essence.
