On Friday, August 23, at 7:45 PM KST, the K-pop idol BTS' SUGA appeared at the Yongsan Police Station for investigations regarding his recent DUI incident. While it was previously declared by the police that the idol would not be standing for a photo line, several South Korean media reporters were spotted awaiting the idol outside the Yongsan Police Station.
Given that there was no underground parking for the police station, the idol had to pass through the media reporters to enter the police station. Though the idol tried to avoid interviews with the gathered reporters, he answered one of the questions directed by a journalist from the crowd.
"You’re currently being investigated for drunk driving. Do you have anything to say?" one of the journalists asked.
To this, the idol apologized for his actions and stated that he regrets having disappointed his many fans. Here's what his exact statement read:
"Firstly, I am very sorry. I am truly reflecting on having hugely disappointed many fans and many people. I will diligently undergo the investigations. Once again, I am sorry."
Following this statement, BTS' SUGA was quickly made to enter the Yongsan Police station where the investigations for his recent DUI incident will be privately held.
All you need to know about BTS SUGA's DUI incident
On August 6, BTS' SUGA was charged with DUI for riding an electric scooter while under the influence. In a Weverse statement, he explained that after drinking with friends in his studio, he decided to ride the electric scooter home, which was about 500 meters away, not knowing it was illegal in South Korea. Although no one was injured, he fell while making a left turn.
This was spotted by a nearby patrol police. When the police took a breathalyzer test on BTS' SUGA, it turned out positive. Therefore, he was charged with DUI and had to pay a fine. His license was also revoked as a consequence.
In addition to his explanation of what happened regarding the DUI case, the idol also apologized for his actions. He expressed that he didn't intend to disappoint his fans. Here's what a part of his statement read:
"I apologize to those who have gotten hurt because of my carelessness and wrong action and from now on and forward, I will be more and more careful with my actions so nothing like this will happen."
On the other hand, BigHit Entertainment also released a statement apologizing for the idol's actions. While the idol and his agency assumed that the case was concluded after the fine and license revocation, they only later realized that further investigations regarding the same are yet to be done. The police informed that the idol will be privately investigated regarding the DUI case and August 23 marks the first day of investigations for this case.
