Jackson Wang of GOT7 recently opened up about his struggles over the past year, during one of his live streams on X. On January 21, 2025, he held a live to address his health and whereabouts from recent times as well as the previous year.
During this livestream, Jackson reflected upon the emotionally challenging period that he went through last year. Having been largely inactive throughout 2024, he explained that he had taken a deliberate break from his activities and the industry as a whole.
Jackson Wang shared that his constant work schedule had left him feeling "miserable," and the break was essential for his mental well-being.
"I took a year off basically because I felt miserable."
Now, with the release of GOT7’s new group album Winter Heptagon, Jackson expressed his readiness to restart and re-engage within the industry.
Jackson Wang's late New Year wish on Instagram and other recent activities
Jackson's recent schedule included GOT7's recent appearance on their IDDP interview, a segment from 1theK Originals where idols react to their online content community pages on platforms like YouTube and TheQoo, along with other fan forums. This interview was the first for the group in three years, and they showcased a candid side of them which fans seemed to enjoy thoroughly.
Meanwhile, apart from this video, Jackson Wang also took out time to explain what he had individually been through outside of the entire group's recent comeback.
During his X live, he talked about the emotions that he went through during the past year, further stating that he was "officially back."
“I took a year off because being in the industry, active with a full schedule for 11 years straight, was miserable... But f**k that negative thought... I’m officially back and today’s day one in terms of [being] active... We’re back with the boys,” he said.
With members Jinyoung and Jay B serving in the military and other members releasing their solo work, all GOT7 members stayed active in 2024 through music or military commitments, except for Jackson Wang. This prompted him to address his absence and explain why he took a break.
Before holding the live, on January 21, he also shared a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the past year and welcoming 2025. In the post, he revealed that he had spent his break reconnecting with family, reflecting on what matters to him, and healing. He further described the new year as a time to rediscover his purpose and prepare for his comeback.
In his caption, Jackson Wang wrote:
“May 2025 be a year with honesty. It’s late but Happy New Year everyone... A lot to share and unload in 2025. I’m officially back, working on a lot of stuff that I cherish. Meaningful & honest, with purposes... I hope nothing but happiness for all people here. May the 2025 version of urself be the honest and pure you. Love, J.”
Now, with GOT7’s new album Winter Heptagon creating waves in the K-pop community, Jackson is officially back and ready to take on new projects. Fans are thrilled to see him rejoin the group and possibly embark on other endeavors.
