On September 3, 2024, Maeil Business Newspaper reported that the Incheon Airport put together a guidebook/manual after Byeon Woo-seok's airport security fiasco. The manual outlines proper procedures for handling celebrity arrivals and departures.

For the unversed, in July 2024, Lovely Runner star Byeon Woo-seok got entangled in an airport controversy. His security guards reportedly blocked the boarding gate, checked the tickets of other passengers at the VIP lounge, and flashed their faces with light, causing inconvenience and discomfort. The public outcry towards Byeon Woo-seok was severe and his agency had to apologize and clarify the situation.

A guideline titled "Measures to Prevent the Recurrence of Excessive Security of Famous People in the Airport" was sent to the airport by the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee. The manual's objective is to maintain a peaceful environment during celebrity airport departures and arrivals, handle crowd mobbing, and immediate response time, among others.

As per the new manual, starting September 2024, the Incheon Airport Police will assume control of the area and oversee crowd control and order if less than 300 to 500 people are gathered due to a celebrity's arrivals and departures. The airport police force is required to ensure passenger safety and enhance on-site control if the crowd size reaches above 500.

More about Byeon Woo-seok's airport security mishap that invited the ire of the public

Regarding the countermeasures, the organization determined that the debate around excessive security between the Incheon International Airport and Byeon Woo-seok's security team stemmed from inadequate on-site reaction. This was due to a lack of information exchange and inadequate control functions of private security agencies.

Earlier, Lovely Runner actor, Byeon Woo-seok's agency, Varo Entertainment, mentioned that they hired a third-party security agency to handle his airport departure on July 14, 2024, when the actor was leaving for his Hong Kong fan meet (Summer Letter) event.

The security agency's CEO later apologized for the mishap and stated that the entire security detail wasn't discussed with Varo Entertainment.

"It was the fault of the security guard for having shone the flashlight. We wished to deeply apologise for making civilians uncomfortable. It is true that there was no need for over-protection in that situation. We normally do not operate this way as well."

Later, Varo Entertainment apologized to the public and informed them that they had terminated their contract with the security agency. They promised to be more mindful and vigilant during hiring security personnel for Byeon Woo-seok or other artists from their agency.

Meanwhile, some netizens shared their experiences of witnessing the actor's security detail at the airport and believed that it was not "an act of over-protection."

In other news, Lovely Runner is available on Netflix and Viki for global streaming.
