More on BTS' RM's Right People, Wrong Place being screened at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival

The 29th Busan International Film Festival opened with a bang on October 2 and will run till October 11, showcasing glorious films and documentaries from around the world while honoring established and emerging filmmakers. It is being held at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

From its many sections, Open Cinema showcases films boasting artistic finesse and popularity. It includes works that have caught global attention among the films invited to the festival.

BTS' RM's chronicle, Right People, Wrong Place, documenting his artistic passion and personal evolution, was directed by Lee Seok-jun. The director was previously involved in producing the music videos for the two title tracks Arson and MORE from BTS j-hope's solo album Jack In The Box.

The film's description on BIFF's official website describes what viewers may expect from the 80-minute-long production, including details as to its style,

"A documentary about the making of BTS's leader RM's second solo album, "Right Place, Wrong Person," and the story of his late twenties before his military enlistment, as well as the extremely personal voice of Kim Nam-joon, a natural person. <RM: Right People, Long Place> begins with faded, rough-textured shots that evoke nostalgia."

Describing it as "a journal of some youth," it further refers to the docu-film as a series of diary entries and the album as something made with the notion of capturing RM as he is,

"This is a journal of some youth. Starting from 2023.2.8. and continuing until 2023.11.10., the project of 'Team RM' is carried out on paragraphs with dates written on them like a diary. In a small festival-like joint project where friends who get along well and have similar tastes gather and share hamburgers and whiskey, RM, or Kim Nam-joon, dreams of an album that is 'completely him."

It ends with,

"They leave for a shoot 'where no one cares about me,' and the photographer captures 'him as he is.' The film <RM: Right People, Long Place> made on that road is an album making film and a very special youth diary." (Kang So-won)

GENESIS THEATER will further screen a special short video of 6 minutes on a 27-inch integrated OLED display, with Bang & Olufsen sound system, in the GV80 hall and ELECTRIFIED G80 hall, available exclusively at the Busan International Film Festival. Furthermore, Right People, Wrong Place will also be available at the outdoor theater of Busan Cinema Center during the festival period.

Per Star Today's October 4 report, the film's official distributing partner, CJ 4DPLEX's General Director Oh Yoon-dong, revealed during the 'CJ Movie Forum' on the same day that the company focuses on expanding live performance film content with the propagation of K-pop worldwide.

As a result of their effort to distribute such content, based on their industry know-how, their first project happened to be RM's Right People, Wrong Place. At some point during the session, he alluded to the BTS leader's film, stating,

"I'm glad that the RM movie, which will be the first of its kind, is being released in Busan and I hope it receives a lot of love. I ask for your great anticipation and support."

General Director Oh added they plan to release RM's documentary feature film across 3,000 screens worldwide starting in December.

In the film's title, Right People, Wrong Place, the words "Right" and "Wrong" indicate that when the boundaries become unclear, the quest to discover one's true self and the appropriate place begins.
