On January 5, 2025, the online sphere saw a heated debate unfold as BTS fans, known as ARMY, bombarded BIGBANG member Taeyang's Instagram with a wave of criticism. This backlash stemmed from remarks made by Taeyang during a recent interview with CNN, where he discussed BIGBANG’s influence on K-pop's global popularity.

In the interview, Taeyang answered a question about BIGBANG's role in shaping K-pop's international success. He expressed gratitude for the group's contributions, acknowledging that their efforts had helped open doors for future K-pop artists to perform on global stages.

"Thankfully, we were able to open doors to global markets for many K-pop groups that came after us, and they can perform on world-famous stages. I wouldn't say we pioneered that, but it feels great to see that our efforts have played a part in that," Taeyang stated.

However, his comments were seemingly interpreted by some ARMY members as downplaying BTS's role in K-pop’s global rise, leading to a surge of negative reactions on his social media platforms.

His fans quickly came to his defense, arguing that the artist's words were taken out of context. They highlighted that his statement was a straightforward response to the interviewer’s question and did not diminish BTS’s achievements.

"It's almost embarrassing."

Others also defended the BIGBANG's artist against the hate comments.

"They show how much immature and jobless they're," an X user wrote.
"If they wanna get technical PSY opened the gates before BTS did," another person mentioned.
"Taeyang did not even take all the credit and that's him being nice but this is some disturbingly low-level behavior from a fandom who always feel the need to prove their faves worth. Pathetic," a fan added.

They criticized the backlash as unwarranted and called out the perceived immaturity of certain ARMY members for misinterpreting the remarks.

"they are sho childish and miserable, the funny thing is , no one even discredit BTS and saying they didn't paved the way lol," a fan added.
"i hate their fandom sm lol the guy didnt even said he opened the doors he said he’s glad that he’s PART OF THE MANYYY ARTISTS who opened it. Y’all are dumb omg," an X user wrote.
"this is so funny im crying why are their so fcking immature ??," a netizen mentioned.
