More about Chef Ahn Sung-jae and Culinary Class Wars

For those unfamiliar with the star chef, Ahn Sung-jae is South Korea's only Michelin 3-star chef, renowned for his fine dining restaurant Mosu Seoul. Born in South Korea, he was heavily influenced by his grandmother’s traditional North Korean and Japanese cooking.

Later, after moving to California, his family’s Chinese restaurant introduced him to the culinary world at a young age. Following a stint in the US Army and a tour in Iraq, Ahn decided to pursue his passion for cooking and eventually launched his first restaurant, Mosu, in San Francisco in 2015. Though successful in the US, he moved Mosu to Seoul in 2017 to be closer to his family.

In Culinary Class Wars, Ahn Sung-jae played a pivotal role as a judge, alongside veteran restaurateur Baek Jong-won. The intense show, which pits amateur cooks against elite chefs, has captivated audiences, with Ahn’s critical yet insightful judging style standing out. Known for evaluating both the taste and the technique behind the dishes, Ahn's strict criteria have made him a standout on the show.
