On Friday, August 9, THE BOYZ's New posted a video on his personal Instagram account. The video showcased him and his fellow members, Sunwoo and Q, playing with a cake. The cake had a few decorative edible animal characters on top, and the members were found flicking and smashing them.

It was also reportedly sent to THE BOYZ members by a Japanese staff member from JILL STUART Beauty in celebration of the group member's recent partnership with them. Many found the cake to be a great gesture of gratitude. However, with the video of Sunwoo, New, and Q playing with the cake, fans were soon disappointed by their behavior.

Many expressed that the members showcased disrespectful behavior towards the food, the brand, and the people who made the cake. Netizens also found that the cake shop, un., that made the cake was quite renowned.

They are often stormed with customers trying to get their hands on the shop's baked goods. Therefore, the members received heavy backlash for the same and the video was soon deleted. As translated by Google Translate, a Japanese X (formerly Twitter) post read:

"Has this post been deleted? I went to Instagram but couldn't find it... It's not good to play with food."
"Wait wait wait, isn't this just too gross? Watching this made my heart ache. Especially since it was a cake made by a friend with love. It's unthinkable to play with food, yet an idol finds it amusing and posts it on social media..." said a fan on X.
"The desire to bully cute things is called cute aggression, and is simply a psychological phenomenon in humans, so I think it's different from this. In the first place, destroying a doll you bought yourself is completely different from playing with food someone gave you," added another netizen.
"Didn't your family teach you not to play with food?," one person said on X.

More netizens came forward to express their displeasure with the behavior executed by THE BOYZ members.

"I hate the violence of ruining something that someone else worked hard to make and enjoying it, and I also hate the stupidity of proudly posting it on SNS..." another person said.
"Posting something like this won't increase your fan base. It's really childish and stupid. People who defend this are too naive," another person commented.
"It's sad that there are so many people who treat food carelessly...I'm sure there are cultural differences as well, but if something like this actually happened to me, I wouldn't be able to keep quiet," stated a netizen on X.
"Don't waste food... What you do with things you receive from others is up to you, but I don't understand why you would treat it so carelessly and expose it like that," added another netizen.
