BigHit Music rolled out BTS' Jin's latest Weverse Magazine interview on July 10 at KST, where the idol got candid about his life in the limelight, especially after returning from the military. During the same, the interviewer asked him about the humorous incident of Kim Namjoon, aka RM, playing the saxophone for Jin at his military discharge event. His answer is amusing BTS fans to no end.
In his response, BTS' eldest revealed that initially, he did not register the fact that RM was playing the instrument next to him, as he was overwhelmed, in tears, and greeting the media gathered outside. Furthermore, as an assistant drill sergeant, he was used to hearing army band recordings play saxophones on duty. He assumed it was the customary discharge music being played.
It was only much later, when he watched the recording, that he noticed that the BTS rapper played none other than the group's superhit Dynamite. Here's what Jin said,
"I didn’t even realize he was playing next to me, and I only found out the song being played was “Dynamite” when I saw the video later. I was an assistant drill sergeant, so I was used to hearing the saxophone in recordings of the army band all the time, like at discharge and enlistment ceremonies."
He went on,
"So when I heard music playing, I just assumed it was the same discharge music as always. I was crying, and I had to salute here and there because there were reporters, and I was just so overwhelmed that I had no idea."
He further revealed his surprise at seeing Kim Namjoon as his typical, playful self, wearing a "super weird" outfit. He went on to handle the situation in an equally funny manner by ushering in the Indigo rapper with a "Let's go."
"Then I turned to look and saw Namjoon and was like, “Huh?” It was the typical Namjoon, but he was wearing something super weird! (laughs) It was like, “What? Anyway, thanks for coming. Alright, Namjoon, let’s go, let’s go.”" (all via Weverse/BTS)
BTS' Jin completed his conscription on June 12, 2024, after serving for a mandatory 18-month period, as is required of all able-bodied South Korean men. Being the first of the K-pop septet to enlist, he was the first to be discharged from the military. He was welcomed with hugs and flowers by his bandmates, who are presently completing their individual military duties.
BTS' Jin shared several anecdotes in recent Weverse Magazine interview
Ever since his return, the Abyss singer has busied himself with a heavy schedule. Keeping the promise he made on BTS' 10th debut anniversary, the first thing he did upon discharge was broadcast a Weverse livestream to catch up with ARMYs (BTS fans).
On June 13, he even celebrated the Grammy-nominated group's 11th debut anniversary, aka the BTS Festa, with fans in person. It was through holding a "light hug" ceremony, just a day after he came back.
At the event, he not only hugged, patted, and exchanged greetings with 1,000 fans; he even presented a long-overdue stage performance, dancing to Jungkook's SEVEN and performing his own Super Tuna. He also belted out his hits, The Astronaut and Moon, making fans emotional.
In his Weverse Magazine interview, the 31-year-old spoke about readjusting pretty quickly to his superstar lifestyle after shifting from his military routine. Jin shared about fellow army recruits getting emotional on the day of his return. He also spoke about buying food for everybody and goofing around with other enlisted soldiers during his service period.
He lightheartedly attributed his popularity in the military to him being "just adorable."
Jin even mentioned promptly getting into his professional shoes on stage, saying he intentionally put his in-ears on loud volume to drown out any emotions that could impede his first stage performance since his return.
The Epiphany crooner further revealed his plans for music release, since the other members are working on their individual releases. As Jimin's upcoming second album, MUSE, is slated to release soon, he said,
"That made me think I better not wait too long to release mine after his is out, so I’m working to get it done fast." (via Weverse/BTS)
Among other topics, he consistently spoke about his and the Butter group's love for ARMYs. Jin even talked about postponing every other plan to meet fans first after his release, including a party celebrating his discharge. The interview ended with the star stating he feels "happy" as always.
BTS' Jin will soon appear on MBC's popular show, The Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island, also known as It's A Good Thing To Rest Well. According to his Weverse update, he has been filming for variety shows and even hinted at a music release. He will also be the torchbearer representing South Korea at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
