On Wednesday, August 14, the Korean media outlet Dong-A Ilbo published an article stating that the previous CCTV footage regarding SUGA's DUI incident was allegedly false. The article released fresh CCTV footage that showcased the idol driving an electric scooter on the "sidewalk," unlike the initial video which had the person driving on the main road.
Additionally, in the new footage, the idol was seen falling after making an attempt to turn left towards his house. A group of patrol police were seen to be approaching the idol after the fall. They took a breathalyzer test which depicted that the idol was drunk and he was therefore charged for the same. However, the new video created speculations that the first CCTV footage, released by JTBC, was false.
Dong-A Ilbo argued for the same by stating that the first footage showcased the person moving towards Namsan opposite Nine One Hannam. However, SUGA allegedly drank with his friends at a restaurant near the Hannam Intersection and then went back to his studio to drink with his friends. This studio was approximately 500 meters away from Nine One Hannam.
According to Dong A-Ilbo, when the idol left the studio, he took an electric scooter from the studio and drove it on the sidewalk towards Nine One Hannam. Therefore, the conflict in the directions shown in the two CCTV footage(s) led to fans speculating that JBTC released false footage regarding the DUI incident and criticized the Korean media outlet for the same.
They began to trend hashtags on X to garner more attention to the issue and call out the television network for their alleged unprofessional actions. Here's how fans reacted to the recent speculations:
"JTBC APOLOGIZE TO SUGA"
"JTBC doesn’t even have proper reporters so imagine how bad their legal team is like omg y’all about to get SERVED," a netizen wrote on X.
"It's confirmed the first cctv footage was NOT YOONGI but he had to endure endless hate and accusations of lying all because of JTBC LYING," another fan mentioned .
More fans expressed their anger over the Korean news agencies allegedly lying and spreading misinformation regarding SUGA's DUI incident.
"Yoongi was NOT lying about riding his scooter for only 500 meters to his house. Yoongi was NOT lying about falling off his scooter in front of his house. The CCTV footages that was spread around by both JTBC and another media channel from this morning are BOTH FALSE and NOT Yoongi," another fan added on X.
"Jtbc been reporting false news and breaking into other companies' buildings since 2019 we should've gotten rid of you then," a fan commented.
"Yoongi was not lying about what he told to the police. He rode his scooter only 500 meters to his house, falling off his scooter in front of his house. That jtbc cctv footages and from another media channel are false and NOT YOONGI," another person wrote on X.
