On September 29, 2024, BTS' Jungkook made history when his debut solo single SEVEN (feat. Latto), became the most streamed song by an Asian act in Spotify history. The song currently has over 1.934 billion streams (1,934,082,270) and surpassed BTS' 2020 Billboard Hot 100-topping song, Dynamite, which has over 1.933 billion streams (1,933,247,109).
As the youngest member of BTS, Jeon Jungkook became the first from his group to surpass the 1 billion streams threshold, with his track SEVEN achieving this feat within 3 months of its release.
The song was released on July 14, 2023, and by October 31, 2023, Yonhap News reported that it became the fastest song by an Asian soloist to achieve this feat.
Furthermore, it also eclipsed Miley Cyrus' Flowers, which surpassed 1 billion streams in 112 days. This made Jungkook the first musician globally to earn this milestone within 108 days in Spotify history. SEVEN also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for seven consecutive weeks—another record set by a K-pop soloist in the chart's history.
Jungkook's journey from BTS' golden maknae to becoming a global pop star through his solo endeavor
SEVEN was produced and co-written by Andrew Watt, Cirkut, Grammy-winner Jon Bellion, Latto, and Theron Makiel Thomas. The song is a romantic UK garage pop tune, and its official music video starred South Korean popular actress Han So-hee. The song peaked in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Latvia, and over 50 other countries' iTunes Worldwide Song Charts.
It became Jungkook and Latto's first No. 1 track to debut at the top of the US Billboard Global 200. It was also ranked No. 1 Global Song of the Summer by Billboard. Furthermore, the song won the Song of Summer category at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, making Jungkook the first K-pop soloist to win in this international category.
SEVEN also bagged the 2023 Billboard Music Awards for the Top Global K-pop Song category. The Please Don't Change singer also won the Best Song and Best K-Pop categories at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards, making history as the most-awarded K-pop soloist.
