Dai Nakai and Shun Nakanishi, fan favorites from Netflix's The Boyfriend, participated in a photoshoot for DAZED KOREA. The magazine shared the photos on X on August 29, surprising fans. Dai, a university student, and Shun, a musician, first met on The Boyfriend, a dating show where queer men live together, form friendships, and explore romantic connections. Dai, 22, openly expressed his feelings for Shun, 23, on the show.
The reality series, which followed nine men in their search for love, resonated with viewers through its genuine depiction of gay relationships.
The couple shared what they liked about each other, how they realized their affection for one another, and many more things about their relationship. They even played a game where they had to pick one of the two options at the count of three.
"Don't people just love everything about their partner when they're deeply in love like their smell of sweaty armpit :) Loving the smell of someone is just is so romantic because it just shouts LOVE!!" said one fan.
"now i totally understand this live why Shun was so touchy with Dai's thigh also not only this live but most of the time his hand will be there His another most comfortable and smooth pilow," responded another fan.
"If you watch their vlogs it's very clear that Dai is the one in charge, mostly. A simple example would be their mbti discussion. The way he decided that they will take turns and later read each other's results and the way Shun whined. They are so cute," said another fan.
Fans got delighted to get a deeper insight into their relationship.
"sometimes Shun gets all clingy out of nowhere which Dai finds it cute and while hearing it Shun making this cutest face he is like so that's what you like gotta do more in future," reacted another fan.
"we often see shun the one who takes the lead, but the fact is dai the one who more often takes the lead. the more we read/watching their interview, the more new information we got," commented another fan.
"It's really shun’s fav spot," observed another fan.
Dai and Shun's story so far
From the start, Dai made his feelings for Shun clear, expressing interest through small gestures and even writing him an anonymous letter. Although Shun initially hesitated, unsure about Dai's playful nature, the two grew closer after Dai persistently pursued him.
Their relationship faced challenges, including misunderstandings, guarded feelings from Shun, and Dai’s past coming into question. Shun struggled with trust and compared Dai to his ex, leading to arguments. However, over time, they learned to communicate better, and a turning point came during their overnight date, where they shared a kiss.
By the end, despite occasional conflicts, Dai remained committed to Shun, even turning down Ikuo's confession of feelings. Recently, in a vlog that they posted on their YouTube channel, the two came together and visited the shoot locations and reminisced about their time together.
Viewers can watch The Boyfriend streaming on Netflix.
