K-Town Festival 2024: EXO’s Chen and Xiumin, GOT7’s BamBam and B.I mark their maiden appearances in India

On December 14, TANI Events hosted the second edition of the K-Town Festival, marking the largest K-pop celebration of the year in India. Building on the success of their first edition, this year’s K-pop night was bigger and better than ever before.

The event took place at Mumbai’s Goregaon NESCO Exhibition Hall, with official timings from 10 AM to 10 PM, offering fans a full day of excitement and entertainment.

The event was not merely a series of performances but offered a complete K-pop experience. Fans were treated to a variety of engaging activities, including photo booths, numerous merchandise stalls, food stalls offering Korean cuisines, and an electrifying K-pop DJ set to keep the energy alive before the live performances began.

What made this event historic was its star-studded lineup, featuring some of the biggest names in the K-pop industry. Artists like B.I, GOT7’s BamBam, and EXO’s Chen and Xiumin graced the stage, making this event one of the most significant K-pop gatherings ever held in India.

Held indoors, the K-Town Festival promised an unforgettable experience as fans lined up as early as 8 AM, ready to immerse themselves in the K-pop atmosphere. Once inside, they engaged in various activities, including a Squid Game-inspired game, a K-pose photo booth session, a silent DJ, and other fun games set up at the venue.

A special highlight of the day was the meet-and-greet segment, where a few lucky fans, selected via an online lottery, won the chance to take photos with the artists, receive autographed merchandise, and share a personal moment with their idols.

Although the event schedule faced delays due to technical issues, fans remained excited. The main program finally began around 6 PM, kicking off with DJ Fridayyy, (Ahn Hyung-sun), a Korean DJ who hyped the crowd with a playlist of iconic K-pop tracks. His set concluded with the popular Gangnam Style song leaving everyone dancing.

The next performer, JStellar (Tanishka), an emerging Indian dancer and singer, captivated the crowd with her original songs and choreography. Supported by her dance crew, she represented India’s growing interest in K-pop culture.

BamBam of GOT7 took the stage next, dazzling fans in a black and green leather vest with matching cargo pants. He announced that it was his first visit to Mumbai and India. BamBam performed hits like Last Parade and RiBBon while commanding the stage with his energetic presence.

To fans' delight, he further announced that GOT7 would be making a comeback on January 20, 2025, earning cheers from the audience.

Following that, EXO’s Chen stepped on stage, stunning everyone with his soulful vocals. His entrance, emerging from the dark into a spotlight, felt like a fairytale moment. Despite technical issues with his microphone and headset, Chen maintained his composure, delivering an emotional performance that included the beloved OST Everytime from the hit K-drama Descendants of the Sun.

EXO’s Xiumin brought an engaging and vibrant energy to the stage. Greeting fans in Hindi saying “Namaste” and Marathi saying, “Kasa kay Mumbai?” (meaning what's up Mumbai), he surprised the audience with his efforts to connect personally. Xiumin performed a mix of slow as well as energetic songs, including Serenity and Brand New.

Before the night’s headliner, a special Squid Game-inspired performance surprised fans. Dancers dressed in red suits recreated scenes from the series, while the trailer for Squid Game Season 2 played on the venue’s big screen, drawing loud cheers from the audience.

Finally, B.I took the stage as the closing act. Accompanied by two dancers, he delivered an electrifying performance with over 10 songs, the most by any artist that night. His setlist included hits like BTBT, Tasty, Illa Illa, and Keep Me Up. His energy and passion left fans exhilarated, proving his stature as a power-packed performer.

The K-Town event wrapped up around 9:30 PM, with fans revisiting the merch stalls and food counters before heading out. Despite delays and technical difficulties, the event lived up to its promise, offering fans a memorable day filled with incredible performances, engaging activities, and cherished moments with their favorite artists.
