Kim Soo-hyun, Kim hye-yoon, Byun Yo-han, and many more will receive awards at the 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo 2024. On August 13, Newsis, a South Korean media agency, confirmed the Expo would be held on August 22 in Seoul.

The 2024 Newsis Hallyu Expo will acknowledge South Korean actors and artists who have contributed to the spread of Hallyu through their work this year. Actor Kim Soo-hyun will be awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award for his performance in Queen of Tears, tvN's highest-rated drama.

Meanwhile, Kim Hye-yoon and Byun Yo-han will be given the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman's Award. Kim Hye-yoon and Byun Yo-han recently performed remarkably in their respective dramas, Lovely Runner and Uncle Samsik. Notably, actress Go Min-si will receive the Seoul Mayor's Award for acting in all three seasons of the Netflix Apocalyptic drama Sweet Home.


The 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo 2024: Date, time, location, & all you need to know

As mentioned, the 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo, aka the 2024 K-Expo, is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, 2024. The event will commence at 3 pm KST at the Great Hall of the Chosun Palace in Yoksam, Seoul.

Other notable winners at the 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo 2024 include:

  • H1-KEY — The Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker’s Award for Let It Burn. (Female category)
  • Actor Chae Jong-hyeop — Seoul Tourism Foundation CEO Award for dramas Eye Love You and Serendipity’s Embrace
  • Actress Bona, aka Kim Ji-yeon, of the K-pop girl group WJSN — Seoul Tourism Foundation CEO Award for Pyramid Game.
  • Big Ocean — Hallyu Special Award for the remake of Light by 1st generation group HOT as the first hearing-impaired K-pop group.

Modhaus CEO Jeong Byeong-gi will be given the Korea Creative Content Agency Award. He is known for his production of the 24-member girl group, widely known as tripleS. Twelve members of tripleS — SeoYeon, JiWoo, SooMin, Nakyoung, DaHyun, Kotone, Yeonji, Shinwi, Lyn, JooBin, ChaeWon, and JiYeon — will attend the Newsis Hallyu Expo.

The winner of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker’s Award in the male category will be announced on the day of the ceremony. Additionally, H1-KEY, Big Ocean, and tripleS are set to showcase congratulatory performances at the Hallyu Expo.

The Expo was started in 2019 to increase the sustainability of the Hallyu while also creating a competitive environment in the cultural industry. The Newsis Hallyu Expo is sponsored by government bodies in South Korea, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Creative Content Agency, the Seoul Tourism Foundation, and the Seoul Metropolitan Council.

This year's Expo theme was unveiled as 'REACT K-WAVE.' The event hosts and panelists are set to discuss the steps to be taken for Seoul as a tourist attraction. They will also look for development ideas for the city. The event will also hold an open discussion regarding “The possibility of a quantum jump in Hallyu as seen through the K-food craze.”

The moderator for the K-food popularity session will be Big Data expert Song Gil-young. Meanwhile, Food Culture Lab CEO Ahn Tae-yang and YouTube creator Edmmer, aka Yoon Suk-won, will join as panelists.


The 2024 Newsis Hallyu Expo will be streamed live on the official YouTube channel of Newsis.
